Job Summary
The Physician Assistant or Nurse practitioner will provide direct clinicalcare for patients hospitalized on inpatient Medicine services. Works closelyunder the supervision of our Hospitalists Physicians and will work in closecommunication with the unit's multidisciplinary team which includes socialwork, care management, and nursing. Involvement in the educationaltraining of future providers is also an option for interested providers.
Essential Functions:
Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervisionof a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards ofcare or applying appropriate protocols, make decisions regarding treatmentchanges. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. (20%)Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records,taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physicalexaminations. (20%)Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of theappropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in aspecialty area. Initiates, performs or directs other healthcareprofessionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (15%)Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner.Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records.(10%)Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by thesupervising medical staff. (5%)May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinicalcoordination, health station management or responsibility for specialprojects which may encompass protocol development, management planning,scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practiceenvironment. (10%)Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes theprinciples and practices of effective communication to elicit information,negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programsor policies. (10%)Follows established departmental policies and procedures, qualityimprovement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. (10%)Education:
Master's Degree RequiredWork Experience:
1-3 years related clinical experience preferred.Licenses:
CNAA-Certified Nursing Administration Advanced - AONL - American Organizationfor Nursing Leadership Required andCSRC-Controlled Substance Regulation Certification - DEA - Drug EnforcementAgency Required andBLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical principals and procedures.Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures.Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams andformulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasivecommunication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution,and/or garner support for various programs or policies.Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuringpatients and motivating patients to accept treatments.Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.Ability to prepare accurate reports.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships withemployees, other departments and t e public.Computer skills required.Computer skills preferred.
