The Vermont Department of Labor is seeking applicants with experiencedoing investigative work, knowledge of unemployment insurance, dataevaluation and interpretation, customer service, and/or report writingto join the Fraud Unit within the Unemployment Insurance Division. The UI Fraud Investigator is an entry-level position that is responsiblefor conducting fraud detection activities and suspected fraudinvestigations involving current and former recipients of benefits inthe Department\'s Unemployment Insurance Programs, including thePandemic Unemployment Assistance Program.
Examples of typical job duties include:
* Resolving data match information, reviews fraud referrals, Departmentrecords, and documents to determine if sufficient grounds exist forfurther investigation or over payment recovery.
* Conducting suspected fraud investigations to establish facts andaccountability including financial restitution and possible programdisqualification.
* Coordinating investigative activities with Department staff, police,and legal authorities.
* Maintaining detailed records and reports of case activities, outcomesand financial impact.
* Determining the potential for successful prosecution or paymentrecovery, works with legal counsel and the State\'s Attorney, and maytestify in court or in an Administrative Hearing.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated success in:
* Working in a highly goal-oriented cooperative team environment;
* Basic to intermediate skill in Microsoft Office software, includingOutlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and OneDrive;
* Understanding and applying standard physical and digital filemanagement practices that protect sensitive information;
* The ability to work independently by self-managing daily and weeklyworkplans to ensure work timeliness;
* Ability to stay organized and on task while handling multiple andchanging high priority items;
* Ability to learn new tasks and processes quickly and effectively; and
* Passion for continuous learning and improvement with their work.
The Fraud Unit staff work in-person at the Vermont Department of LaborCentral Office in Montpelier, and the successful applicant will beexpected to work on-site, full-time, Monday through Friday.
Environmental Factors
Position may require field work and overtime. Private means oftransportation must be available for field duties. Client hostility andor reluctance to cooperate in investigations may occur. Threats ofvarying types and severity against the investigator are possible. Formaltestimony is subject to cross examination.
