Turbine Engineer – Turbine Aerodynamic Designer
A Snapshot of your Day:
Join our international team of engineers and collaborate with your colleagues from combustion, heat transfer, mechanical integrity, secondary air and manufacturing to design the next generation turbines. As an aerodynamic turbine designer, you will design and analyze the aerodynamics and performance of turbine concepts while considering the impact of your design changes on cooling and leakage air consumption and the mechanical integrity of the parts. To do so, you will apply a variety of different tools and 1D, 2D and 3D methods. You will make decisions based on simplified low fidelity approaches if possible or run a 3D CFD or multi-disciplinary optimization to find solutions for complex design tasks, or anything in between.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Conceptual design of axial turbines by respecting cooling, secondary air and cycle point impact and other engine integration aspects.
Design and analysis of flowpath and airfoils of axial turbines using 1D, 2D and 3D tools
Interact with turbine interface partners from secondary air system, whole engine model and performance group as well as our turbine internal interfaces to heat transfer, mechanical integrity and manufacturing.
3D flow analysis and aerodynamic optimization of turbine airfoils, stages or the entire turbine including the diffuser.
Development and implementation of aerodynamic design tools and methods.
Assessment and evaluation of field measurements and transfer of findings to our design tools
Lead of external and internal research and development programs including management of outsourcing specific tasks.
Support of manufacturing and component development
What You Bring
University degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or similar. More than 5 years experience in turbine aerodynamic design/analysis with a strong background in thermodynamics or fluid mechanics. Work experience in disciplines like secondary air system, performance or heat transfer and cooling would be an asset.
Deep understanding of turbine architecture and the interaction of aerodynamics with adjacent disciplines such as heat transfer, mechanical integrate, secondary air system as well as manufacturability.
Conceptual aerothermal turbine and gas turbine development experience.
Advanced knowledge of computational methods, i.e. numerical and optimization methods and coding experience with i.e. python to automate your workflows and process your data
Must be highly motivated, technically focused, also on details and have an innovative thinking mindset. Must have exceptional inter-personal skills and enjoy working with colleagues from different organizations and cultural background.
Business fluent in English (German would be beneficial)
