Position Summary
The shift supervisor oversees the bus drivers during the evening bus runs and ensures that all buses are safe to drive and compliant with legal requirements.
Reports to: Asst. Director of Operations
Works Closely with: Bus Drivers; Transportation Coordinator; Bus Aides
Hours: 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM Willing to be “on call” for some weekend when we have buses
on the road.CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Driver Support & Management
Assign buses to drivers for routes in case of mechanical issues.
Arrive at the bus lot 30 minutes before drivers to ready the yard for departure of buses. Troubleshoot any mechanical issues with buses.
Track arrival time for drivers and to ensure compliance with start times.
Sound the “all clear” when all buses are back in the yard at the end of the day. Make sure that buses are parked in the bus lot and that gates are locked.
Track departure and return times of drivers and buses/routes. Track on time performance of each route.
Inspect each bus for damage and cleanliness when it returns from route.
Submit written shift report each day that details any damage, driver or aide absences, mechanical issues, repairs need to buses, student or staff incidents for follow-up.
Collects daily inspection reports from drivers and file
Collect maintenance request forms, review needed repairs and give to asst. director of operations.
Assist in the ongoing training and development of current drivers
Make 5-8 spot checks on bus route stops per week and document.
Provide training for potential drivers who have their bus driver permit.
Provide training to drivers in any new bus driver regulation and support for drivers seeking to renew their license.
Assist in the identification of potential drivers and recruitment of new drivers
Maintain a well organized office.
Maintain records on drivers for license and medical card renewal.
Complete other work as requested by supervisor.
Bus Maintenance
Able to perform light maintenance on buses (ie. replace light bulbs, replace windshield wipers, radios, etc.
Able to order parts for buses as needed and work with outside vendors

Maintain CDL in good standing with Bus Driver and air brake endorsement
Be available as an emergency back-up driver.
Serve as field trip bus driver

Clean audit of records. Records to be audited by Director of Operations periodically

Requirements
Desired Experience & Skills
CDL Drivers License with S & P endorsement
Must be able to project yourself in a professional manner
Experience managing people
Able to send/receive email, do internet searches, use Google Docs, and use Google Sheets
Experience using route management software
Experience doing administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, inventory, etc.
