About Temporary Ballot Security Judge (2024 Election)

  DescriptionThe Ballot Security Judge is responsible for daily collection of ballots from24-hour ballot drop-off locations and Voter Service and Polling Centers(VSPCs). They are responsible for completing chain of custodydocumentation and delivering supplies to VSPCs, and collecting mail from theGeneral Mail Facility (GMF). They may also be responsible for deliveringand collecting ballots and ballot boxes from Healthcare Facilities (HCFs)and the Arapahoe County Jail.

  Applicants for this position must be willing to travel in the same vehiclewith another election worker.

  Note: This is a seasonal position with variable working hours based onbusiness needs.DutiesThe following duty statements are illustrative of the essentialfunctions ofthe job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may berequired. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties oressential functions of the job at any time.Deliver ballot boxes to Voter Service and Polling Centers (VSPCs).Collect ballots at 24-hour drive up ballot box locations and VSPC locations.Ensure that daily pick up of ballot boxes are completed and returned to theelections warehouse for processing.Accurately complete chain of custody documentation.Deliver supplies to VSPCs, as requested, in a timely manner.Complete daily mail pick up from the General Mail Facility (GMF).Successfully accept mail through the receiving process at the electionswarehouse.Deliver to, and pick up ballots from, Healthcare Facilities (HCFs) andthe Arapahoe County Jail.Other duties as assigned.Skills & Abilities:Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.Ability to use personal cell phones for multiple purposes.Ability to remain calm and positive in a fast paced environment.Ability to drive and sit in a vehicle for an extended period of time.Ability to read maps, follow driving directions, and learn alternativeroutes if needed.Ability to prioritize tasks within the project, and meet required dailydeadlines.Ability to effectively cope with the stress of demanding duties and handlewith composure.Ability to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships withsupervisors, fellow employees, VSPC election judges, and the general public.Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.Ability to work as a team player, and independently, with some direction.Behavioral Competencies:Consistently punctual.Flexible, willing to work a varied schedule and overtime hours when necessary.Exhibits professionalism and works well with others.Follows instructions and responds well to management direction.Maintains a clean workspace.Accepts responsibility for own actions and work product.Able to remain politically neutral while carrying out the duties of the BallotSecurity Judge.RequirementsEDUCATION:HS Diploma or GED equivalent required.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  18 years of age or olderA resident and registered to vote in ColoradoPass a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background checkNot a candidate or a relative to the 2nd degree of a candidate on the ballotThis position requires successful completion of pre-employment backgroundcheck and motor vehicle checkResponsible for operating county vehicle or rental vehicleNote - StudentJudges are only hired for General Elections and must be 16 or 17 years old.Supplemental InformationSUPERVISION RECEIVED:Receives immediate supervision from Elections Staff, including the ElectionsLogistics Administrator, the Elections Operations Manager, the ElectionsSystems Administrator and the Deputy of Elections.INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:Contacts are with supervisors, management, peers, elected officials,voters, and/or vendors. Contacts require the ability to exercise a highdegree of interpersonal skills to influence pe sons at all levels.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work involves transporting ballot boxes and mail trays between the ArapahoeElections Warehouse, the General Mail Facility, and various Voter Serviceand Polling Centers, Healthcare Facilities, Arapahoe County Jail, andballot drop-off boxes.Work requires travel in a rental vehicle with other people.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with thisposition.Spends 40% of the time sitting and 60% of the time either standing,walking, twisting or bending.Frequently lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 50 lbs. Assistance froma co-worker is recommended.Uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 50 lbs.Frequently stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and croucheswhile performing work duties.Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use ofautomated mail ballot machinery or equipment.Visual capacity enabling use of work related equipment, and passengervehicles.Definitions:Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
