DescriptionElections Ballot Processing Judges assist in receiving and processing ballotsat the Arapahoe County Elections Warehouse, and may assist with specializedfunctions such as signature verification, tabulation and ballot opening.

Receiving:May assist in receiving ballots collected from drop-off boxes and VoterService and Polling Centers (VSPCs).May assist in preparing ballots for the mail ballot sorting machine.Verifying:May assist in verifying voter signatures on returned ballot envelopes.May assist in processing UOCAVA (military and overseas citizens) ballotsand paperwork.May assist with correspondence and documentation relating to curing ballotdiscrepancies.Processing:May assist with ballot opening and removal from the returned mail ballotpacket.May assist with the tabulation, adjudication and counting of voted ballots.May assist with receiving and processing mail using the mail ballot sortingmachine.Skills & Abilities:Personal communication skills enabling courteous and diplomatic interactionsand working relationships with elections staff and co-workers.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to focus on a single task for extended periods of time.Attention to detail.Basic computer skills.Ability to accurately sort, file, and review documents.Ability to perform data entry, voter information retrieval, crossreferencing, and copying.Ability to use personal mobile phone for daily communication with supervisor.Knowledge of SCORE database or tabulation equipment, a plus.Experience with ballot processing, a plus.Knowledge of signature verification procedures, a plus.Behavioral Competencies:Flexible, willing to work varying hours, and overtime or weekends, whennecessary.Consistently punctual.Attentive to detail.Exhibits professionalism and works well with others.Follows instructions and responds well to management direction.Maintains a clean workspace.Accepts responsibility for own actions and work product.Able to remain politically neutral while carrying out the duties of the BallotProcessing Election Judge.RequirementsEDUCATION:High School Diploma or GED equivalent requiredADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:18 years of age or olderA resident and registered to vote in ColoradoPass a pre-employment background check to include a Colorado Bureau ofInvestigation (CBI) background checkNot a candidate or a relative to the 2nd degree of a candidate on the ballotNote - Student Judges are only hired for General Elections and must be 16 or17 years old.Supplemental InformationSUPERVISION RECEIVED:Receives immediate supervision from Arapahoe County Elections employees orarea Leads. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:Contacts are generally with Arapahoe County Election employees and with otherballot processing judges, but may include elected officials or members ofthe public. Contacts require the ability to exercise a high degree ofprofessionalism and interpersonal skills.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is confined to a standard office and warehouse setting.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with thisposition.Spends 80% of each day sitting and another 20% either walking or standing.Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication, as well ascommunication through automated devices such as the telephone.Eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling use of the office equipment.Visual capacity enabling operation of office and computer eq ipment.Occasionally lifts or carries up to 50 lbs, with the assistance of aco-worker.Definitions:Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.Frequently: Activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
