UNIVERSAL Technologies is seeking a Telecommunication/Public Safety Network Engineer for a hybrid position with 50% remote work and 50% onsite/field work for a part-time position in New York, NY. Applicants must be able to 50% work onsite (at up to five different worksites) in New York, NY. This is a part-time role that will provide work as needed. Position: The Telecommunication/Public Safety Network Engineer will provide Telecommunication and Public Safety experience for multiple NYC worksites including performing site surveys, documenting findings, and developing best practices and planning documents. MANDATORIES:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a technical or professional specialty.
15+ years of relevant experience including 5+ years of program/project management experience OR 2+ years of management experience.
10 years in telecommunications and/or public safety preferred.
Must be proficient in Microsoft products, specifically Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Visio.
JOB DUTIES: Telecommunication Experience
Apply engineering experience including managing, planning, and implementing a wide range of telecommunications and networking projects.
Develop best practices and strategies for maintaining, remediating, and updating IT equipment rooms and data centers.
Develop detailed room layout drawing and corresponding checklists for the purpose of evaluating telecommunication systems for planning and remediation activities.
Conduct field surveys for UPS, HVAC, and other related telecommunications systems.
Develop functional and technical requirements documents.
Practice telecommunications cabling best practices required.
Public Safety Experience
Perform typical public safety operations and specifically access control systems, network cameras, and public safety radio systems.
Develop functional and technical requirements documents.
Complete assessment of public safety elements and the network infrastructure associated with these systems by performing a review of existing documentation and a physical inspection of locations, as needed. These reviews may include knowledge of the following:
Current port count and utilization.
Rack capacity.
Independent distribution frame/main distribution frame (IDF/MDF) space restrictions.
Cabling.
Power.
Environmental (e.g., heating, ventilation, and air conditioning [HVAC]).
