  Position Overview:

  The Electronics Engineering Division of the Accelerator Directorate is looking for an Accelerator Power Systems Technician I - RF Systems to provide technical support of particle accelerator and scientific equipment electronics systems by joining a fast paced, result driven, enthusiastic group of accelerator technicians.

  The work includes the design, development, test, measurement, debugging, and maintenance of complex electronics, electro-mechanical, or computer equipment and systems where the application of advanced sophisticated technological skills, scientific principles, and creativity are required. Systems include fast communications, electronics readouts and controls, RF systems and high voltage DC or pulsed systems.

  The APS Tech I – RF Systems works under close supervision to maintain DC Power or Modulator driven high power RF systems. Recurring, routine technical work is reviewed generally for conformance to specifications and system performance. The APS Tech I – RF Systems will be a member of a team of technicians and associate engineers who maintain the nearly 160 high power klystrons (60 MW peak) and associated equipment within the two-mile Klystron Gallery, as well as 296 Solid State Amplifiers for a new super conducting accelerator.

  Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.

  Your specific responsibilities include:

  Perform routine technical work in support of accelerator electrical power systems. Explicit instructions are generally provided unless the task is routine.

  Work under close supervision and with limited scope to maintain High power RF components from 100 W to MW.

  Bring high power RF systems into and out of operational service as needed following specific procedures and under strict supervision.

  Work occasional irregular hours, as required, in support of project, program, operations, or maintenance schedules and goals.

  Maintain good standing in all personal training and qualification requirements.

  Perform all work in accordance with established safety and work planning and control procedures and continuously strive to ensure a safe working environment

  To be successful in this position you will bring:

  A.S. degree in (electronics, or related technical area) or equivalent experiential knowledge in power electronics maintenance.

  Basic level ability to fabricate/assemble components including prototypes, and perform experimental apparatus set-up, testing, and equipment operation.

  Basic level proficiency to maintain RF Systems.

  Familiarity with RF components at 100MHz to 12GHz.

  Experience with vacuum RF and waveguide transmission.

  Familiarity with RF test equipment: oscilloscope, power meter, network/spectrum analyzer

  Experience with power sources for RF equipment: high voltage power supplies, power electronics.

  Good interpersonal skills and strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  Experience working as part of a collaborative team.

  Must be capable of and committed to achieving the department’s mission in a safe and respectful manner, in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

  Must possess a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record.

  Note: This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.

  The expected pay range for this position is $40.75 (Step 1) - $49.13 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
