Description
Drives the overall coordination of complex technical development, commercial activities and project management of supplier technical risk and quality in the early product development. Integrates the requirements of interdisciplinary and cross functional stakeholders of supplier product development and leads difficult decisions that impact supplier selection and cost without sacrificing quality expectations for the value package profile. Negotiates with project leadership, suppliers, product engineers, and technology teams to ensure the delivery of robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity. Influence the design and project risk trade-offs that impact project cost or supplier early engagement without sacrifice or quality expectations. Establish guidance to complex supplier relationships through supplier agreements required to protect intellectual properties. Lead and support all Supplier Early Engagement work and new technology development. Engage with project teams and engineering to understand needs for new suppliers and technologies and connect engineering with the appropriate sourcing team. Serve as purchasing team member for defined projects and meet the required purchasing deliverables and well as support the procurement cycle when the project includes a demonstration product deliverable. Drive engagement to establish preliminary new product program sourcing strategies for Product Preceding Technology (PPT) and other projects that are moving to VPI. Use Should Cost and other tools to develop piece price targets for components and product material cost targets in conjunction with the Technical Cost Centre of Excellence. Establish and control product and service costs using functional tools to deliver and track product and services at competitive prices. Ensure competitiveness of Cummins products in our markets while preserving desired margins. Comply with purchasing policies and procedures in daily work and leverage tools to conduct procurement initiatives. Manage the protection of Cummins Intellectual Property by engaging legal function when necessary, in order to avoid inhibiting Cummins’ ability to freely invent.

Experience and Education:
Positions require a Master’s degree in Supply Chain or Logistics Management, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Supply Chain, Sourcing, or Purchasing Analyst, Logistics or Mechanical Engineer, or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Logistics Management, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience as a Supply Chain, Sourcing, or Purchasing Analyst, Logistics or Mechanical Engineer, or related position. Experience to include: Supplier technical risk and quality management; Ensure delivery of prototype and production designs; Supplier Early Engagement work; New product program sourcing strategies; Product Preceding Technology (PPT); Develop product material cost targets; Establish product and service costs; Purchasing policies and procedures; Conduct procurement initiatives.
