  Description

  We are currently recruiting for 6 apprentices across a range of roles in our Manufacturing and Engineering functions, details of the available roles are as follows;

  Lab Ops - Engineering Fitter (electrical)

  We are looking for an apprentice to join our Controls & Instrumentation team based in Huddersfield.

  Our purpose is to develop measurement and control solutions to evaluate the performance of Turbochargers and their components, as well as other automotive machinery as the business requires. You will be involved with the delivery control and instrumentation solutions for local and Global Testing Laboratories.

  The ideal candidate will;

  Have an interest in Engineering and specifically Electrical / Electronics.

  Possess strong computer skills or demonstrate interest in acquiring those skills for Configuration and Interrogation of various C&I Hardware.

  Possess good communications skills, written and verbal to interact with local and global engineers.

  Be able to embrace diversity and operate as part of a team in an environment that puts safety first.

  Follow recognized fault-finding processes to diagnose system issues.

  Document various aspects of work, including user guides and maintenance manuals.

  Assist with Manufacture and Assembly of C&I solutions.

  Work towards operating industry standard electrical based drawings packages.

  Work towards developing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) hardware and software

  Lab Ops – Engineering fitter (mechanical)

  As a Technician in our Laboratory Operations function, you will be responsible for the following:

  Carrying out standard and non-standard turbocharger tests.

  Working closely with engineers to determine best options/testing approach.

  Setting up turbochargers in test cells and on engines to perform turbocharger functional tests.

  Setting-up on test engines.

  Writing complex test programmes.

  Producing test data and assessing for quality prior to handing over to engineering.

  Building prototype turbochargers.

  Machining non-standard prototype parts.

  Carrying out detailed disassembly and inspection of tested components.

  Carrying out routine test cell and engine bed maintenance.

  Engaging in and complying with HSE standards, policies, procedures, and regulations

  Maintenance – Mechatronics maintenance technician (x2)

  As a Multiskilled Maintenance apprentice, you will work within our maintenance team, maintaining electrical and mechanical machines and equipment in an industrial environment. As part of your role as a maintenance apprentice, you will be responsible for ensuring machine tools and assembly lines are available and capable by means of:

  Maintaining production equipment following a safe system of work.

  Identifying faults & errors & developing skills to overcome them.

  Working on equipment breakdowns

  Understanding preventative/predictive maintenance programs.

  Undertaking training in the assembling/disassembling of equipment.

  Following documented procedures/policies to diagnose & complete repairs.

  UK Prototype – Machinist (x2)

  As a Machining apprentice within out UK Prototype division, you will be responsible for the following:

  Manufacture of basic and complex components directly from engineering drawings with a problem-solving approach, using a range of manufacturing methods and equipment.

  Creation and development of CNC programs and methods of manufacture.

  Interpreting and understand complex engineering drawings and the application of geometrical tolerancing.

  Creation and development of documented procedures while following best practice.

  Obtaining an advanced understanding of various metrology methods and their respective impacts on manufacturing processes.

  Engaging in and complying with HSE standards, policies, procedures, and regulations.

  Key responsibilities

  You will study full time at Appris in your first year learning a broad range of electrical and/or mechanical (role dependent) engineering knowledge and skills including:

  Mechanical;

  Producing components using hand fitting techniques.

  Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment.

  Assembling and testing fluid power systems.

  Producing mechanical assemblies.

  Preparing and using lathes for turning operations.

  Preparing and using milling machines.

  Electrical;

  Maintaining Electrical Equipment and Systems.

  Wiring and Testing Electrical Equipment and Circuits.

  Assembling and Testing Electronic Circuits.

  Maintaining Electronic Equipment and Systems.

  Using Computer Software Packages to Assist with Engineering Activities.

  Maintaining Mechanical Devices and Equipment.

  After your first year you will come on site for the duration of your apprenticeship to learn your role within the company and will study one day per week at Appris. Included in the 4-year apprenticeship is a 2-year Level 4 HNC qualification.

  We are looking for self-motivated people who are a good fit for our business. We want to see and hear that you are genuinely enthusiastic about developing a career in your chosen field, you work well in a team and can plan & organise your time effectively. In addition, you will also possess:

  5 GCSEs Grade A\

  C (level 4-9): Including English language and a Science/Technology subject.Mathematics: GCSE Grade B or above (Level 5-9 equivalent).

  During the full-time year at Appris college, apprentices will learn the core knowledge required as part of their apprenticeship programme. When starting on site, they will be given opportunities to develop and put the skills into practice in order to gain the experience and competence required to complete the qualification.
