The Eberly Center seeks a full-time Teaching Consultant (educational developer) for a fixed-term position (up to three years). Remote work will be considered on a case-by-case basis, consistent with university policies and pending approval. This position will support the professional development of faculty, postdoc, and graduate student instructors across all CMU Schools/Colleges in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Typically, our Teaching Consultants develop a diverse and rewarding portfolio of responsibilities as they design and implement programs and services to enhance teaching and learning via the implementation of inclusive, evidence-based, and innovative educational practices. However, based on experience and skill set, this Teaching Consultant may contribute significantly to the implementation of a university-wide initiative studying the impacts of generative artificial intelligence in CMU courses. Teaching Consultants collaborate extensively with Eberly Center colleagues specializing in pedagogy, technology-enhanced learning, and assessment. Additionally, Eberly colleagues engage regularly in robust professional development activities regarding evidence-based teaching, consultation practices, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Specifically, in this role, Teaching Consultants work independently and/or collaboratively to:Consult with faculty, postdoc, and graduate student instructors about inclusive, evidence-based teaching and learning strategies and course design; Develop and implement programs (e.g., interactive seminars, learning communities, teaching orientations) and web resources for the improvement of teaching and dissemination of research-based teaching strategies; and Stay abreast of and disseminate research and emerging developments regarding evidenced-based teaching strategies.
Job requirements:
Education:
Required: PhD, EdD, or terminal degree completed, in any discipline.
Professional Experience:
Required: Two or more years of college-level teaching experience.
Desirable: College-level teaching experience as an instructor of record.
Desirable: One or more years of educational development experience with faculty, postdocs, and/or graduate students at an established, college-level center for teaching and learning (e.g., consultations on teaching and learning, instructional workshops/orientations).
Desirable: One or more years of experience working at institutions of higher education regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Desirable: One or more years of project management experience, including event planning and/or team leadership.
Skills: Demonstrated proficiency regarding the ability to:
Required: Critically read, discuss, and interpret the literature on educational development and research (e.g., dBER, SoTL, teaching as research, learning science).
Required: Consult independently with instructors across disciplines, ranks, identities, and course contexts regarding evidence-based teaching and learning strategies, while maintaining confidentiality.
Required: Develop and implement effective, interactive, evidence-based professional development programs for groups of instructors in higher education.
Required: Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to different audiences.
Required: Work collaboratively and inclusively across subject areas and teaching contexts in settings of social and intellectual diversity.
Required: Adopt a growth mindset regarding professional development and the implementation of feedback.
Desirable: Use education technologies commonly in higher education.
Desirable: Rigorously apply quantitative and/or qualitative methods of data analysis.
