Job Title: Switchboard Operator - ReceptionistDepartment: Source AmericaReports To: Rachel Romano-HughesLocation: Colorado Springs Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center(3141 Centennial Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO, 80907Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday-FridayFLSA Status: Temp to Hire 3-month period with possibility of permanent joboffer.Salary: $16.20/hr + 4.41 H&WSchedule: 40 hours, 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday (off Sat, Sun, Mon)Opportunities for extra hours available.Updated: 3/6/2023SUMMARYThe Switchboard Operator answer incoming phone calls and direct the calls tothe appropriate person or department. The individual must be capable ofanswering phones in a courteous and patient manner, as well as provideeffective telephone switchboard and other departmental services. Operatorswork independently in a small office like a call center environment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Receive and route calls to correct departments/servicesMust learn the internal intranet systems and VA phone protocolsFollows all safety rules and regulationsRoute emergency calls appropriately based on the Standard Operation ProceduremanualPerforms all job tasks listed in Statement of WorkAvailable to backfill hours if colleagues are sick, on vacation or out basedon other emergenciesAbility to communicate and work cooperatively with other Switchboardoperators, Switchboard supervisor, and Hospital staffAdditional Operator duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position has no supervisory responsibilities OR explain the supervisoryrequirement hereQualifications
QUALIFICATIONSExcellent Microsoft Office Skills, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word.Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), grammar, andreasoning skillsAbility to handle confidential and sensitive information without breach
Related experience requiredProvide excellent customer service and model effective communication skillswhen handling callersMUST pass the VA security clearance and background checkConsiderable dependability & independence working alone during shiftEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor's Degree required along with a minimum of five years direct andprogressive experience required.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating andmaintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routinereports and correspondence.
