The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking a motivated and experienced Switchboard Operator *(Communication Dispatcher I) for the Wrentham Developmental Center (WDC). The Telephone Operator is critical to the implementation of the Wrentham Developmental Center’s Emergency Response System by relaying incoming and outgoing telephone calls, logging messages, contacting sources of aid in times of emergencies. *_Job Responsibilities_: (The duties and responsibilities stated are general summary and not all inclusive.) * Provides front desk coverage 24-hours, 7 days a week. * Monitors the fire alarm panels and emergency phones, route the incoming calls using a CISCO console or equivalent; transmits emergency calls, medical and life-safety (i.e., disaster), using mission-critical systems to communicate potentially life-threatening situations; * Contacts sources of aid in times of emergencies; Relays incoming and outgoing telephone calls; Delivers and logs messages; greets visitors and provides information to visitors and callers and disburses mail. * Facilitates voice communications throughout the facility, testing mission-critical systems according to facility policy and procedures; notifies the Help Desk and the Administrative Services, Assistant Facility Director of any disruptions in service; * The WDC switchboard is the emergency contact for all DDS Southeast Regional and Area Office calls after hours, weekends and holidays. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Working knowledge of switchboards. * Capable to work in stressful situations as there may be times responding to emergencies and maintain a calm manner, make decisions and act quickly in emergency situations. * Must be comfortable working in a restricted area. * Ability to speak English clearly, works independently and has excellent communication, written and verbal skills and capacity to give oral instructions in a precise and understandable manner. * Understand, apply and explain the provisions of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, etc. governing the Switchboard activity. * Knowledge of terminology, coding, symbols and standard abbreviations used in radio communications. _Agency Requirements:_ * Candidate must possess a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. _Special Requirements:_ __ “This position is in a program that operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The Department of Developmental Services requires employees in this position to be able to perform mandatory overtime when circumstances dictate the need.” This position is designated as an “EMERGENCY” Position in the Department of Developmental Service’s Emergency Plan.
