Overview
Lead Lending's Strategy & Analytics function. As a direct report to Chief Lending Officer, the position leads and directs three critical areas: Lending Strategy and Integrated Member Strategy for the Lending Department, Lending Analytics and Pricing Optimization, and Lending's Business Unit Finance function.
Lead Lending Strategy, Integrated Member Strategy: lead the group responsible for integrating Lending's vertical strategy and operations to the Member Strategy Office's horizontal strategies. The position will also be a thought leader on understanding new technologies and analytical tools, with a particular focus on the use of data and AI/ML tools that can advance Lending's analytical and operational capabilities. The position will also oversee Lending's product/member experience team to drive operational improvements.
For Lending Business Analytics: focused on advanced analytical capabilities to better understand the drivers of lending and collections performance. Support the product teams by providing analytical leadership to drive price / volume optimizations. Deliver cross-department, forward-looking risk and performance analysis including a horizontal/holistic view of performance from loan origination through the servicing and/or collection lifecycle. Develop analytical capabilities that include enhance views of performance across multiple dimensions (e.g., product, member, segment, demographics, etc.). Provide advanced analytical support to Chief Lending Officer, product leads, MSO liaison, and Collections. Coordinate with Credit Policy to ensure price/volume recommendations align with overall credit risk appetite.
For Business Unit Finance: oversee the team responsible for preparing the department Annual Financial Plan, monitoring ongoing income / expense management and overall profitability analysis for all Lending departments including collections. Serve as primary connection point to the Finance organization.
Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and direction for the Strategy & Analytics division while servicing as a trusted advisor to the Chief Lending Officer, as well as executive and department leadership
• Create and execute, in coordination with the Member Strategy, ISD and Digital departments, a future-focused strategic plan across all products and services within the Lending Organization. The objective is to ensure Navy Federal remains competitive in the marketplace and excels at member service
• Drive transformative changes that advance Lending's ability to serve our members; define the art of the possible by leveraging technology, innovation, and data to reimagine the way we think, interact, and serve our members across all Lending products and services
• Adopt and implement strategies to better serve our members through digital transformation (e.g., data and analytics, change management, AI, machine learning, etc.)
• Lead Lending's integration efforts with the newly formed Member Strategy Office; drive horizontal strategies within Lending that support MSO's key segment's strategies. Oversee the team the serves as the primary conduit between Lending and the MSO
• Lead member experience efforts in Lending by examining multiple journeys across products and services to identify opportunities to streamline processes, create efficiencies and provide a consistent and seamless experience. Focus on using technology to enhance member service and personalization
• Serve as a strategic thought leader to demonstrate the ability of continued innovation and constructively challenge the status quo
• Create and lead an advanced business analytics group. Leverage data to enhance our understanding of business performance across a variety of product and demographic lenses. Lead group responsible for product pricing. Drive insights to improve financial performance, member service and key business decisions
• Lead analytical efforts to make product pricing recommendations to business owners and executive leadership. Ensure decisions balance members' needs, financial performance and tolerance for risk
• Lead effort to create analytical tools and models to evaluate pricing (e.g., efficient frontiers) while balancing pricing, volume objectives and member service with Navy Federal's risk appetite
• Create a holistic view of Lending's operational and financial performance by establishing key performance metrics that will serve as the single point of truth, and proactively use data driven analysis to help the department achieve its strategic goals
• Drive horizontal collaboration across business units, collections, credit and member strategy office
• Lead business unit finance department for Lending; responsible for financial planning and analysis to include Annual Financial Plan and quarterly forecast. Serve as a key strategic partner to the Finance organization to provide a deeper understanding and alignment between the business unit and the Finance team
• Establish credibility throughout Navy Federal, and with executive peers, as an effective spokesperson for his/her area of responsibility, and developer of financial solutions for business challenges
• Provide positive leadership to the division through teaching, training, employee engagement, succession planning, and mentorship programs. Strong focus on people development
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Extensive experience with leading edge technologies including practical knowledge of how to use them in a financial institution setting
• Extensive experience in leading and managing an analytics operation, preferably in a large financial institution; experience with evaluating risk vs return analysis
• Expert knowledge of data querying, reporting, forecasting, analysis and operations research, including statistical methods and modeling
• Collaborative working style with strong focus on people development
• Extensive experience in demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative taking, decision-making and creativity in solving business problems
• Expert skill interpreting and synthesizing large amounts of information
• Expert analytical/quantitative, reconciliation and deductive reasoning skills
• Significant experience in driving change management and influencing organizational culture and values
• Expert skill leading with diplomacy and tact while maintaining appropriate assertiveness and persistence
• Expert skill in being adaptive/flexible; acquire, recognize & apply new information
• Expert skill in results-oriented leadership in a challenging environment
• Extensive experience in managing cross-functional, multi-dimensional teams and projects of the highest complexity which have business risk and impact
• Extensive experience in supervising and leading professional employees
• Significant experience in banking or financial services industry
• Expert skill influencing and building consensus with business partners
• Expert verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
• Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience
