Waste Connections of Missouri is looking for a talented marketing and community outreach oriented individual to support our recently opened Sustainability Campus in Maryland Heights, MO! This new role will be based at Champ Landfill outside of St. Louis.
As the Sustainability Campus Supervisor you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations, educational programs, and community engagement initiatives of a sustainability/interpretive center. This role requires an understanding of environmental sustainability, waste management, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences. The campus supervisor will play a crucial role in promoting environmental awareness, fostering community involvement, and advancing sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Center Operations:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the sustainability campus.
Coordinate with staff to develop exhibits and ensure displays, and interactive installations are well-maintained and up to date.
Oversee the procurement of materials and resources necessary for the center's activities.
Educational Programming:
Develop and implement educational programs, workshops, and events focused on landfill sustainability and waste reduction.
Collaborate with educators, partners, and community leaders to enhance the educational content offered by the center.
Conduct guided tours and presentations for visitors, schools, and community groups.
Community Engagement:
Establish and maintain partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and businesses to promote the center's mission.
Organize outreach activities to engage the local community in sustainable practices and waste reduction efforts and environmental stewardship.
Represent the center at community events and meetings to promote environmental awareness.
Enhance the Waste Connections social media presence to boost awareness of the Sustainability Campus and its programs and initiatives.
Create promotional materials, including brochures, newsletters, digital content, etc.
Staff Management:
Recruit, train, and supervise center staff and volunteers, ensuring they are well-equipped to deliver informative and engaging programs.
Financial Management:
Develop and manage the center's budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource optimization.
Explore and secure grants, sponsorships, and partnerships to support the center's initiatives.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Implement systems for tracking and analyzing visitor data, program participation, and overall impact.
Prepare semi-annual reports for stakeholders, highlighting key achievements and areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, education, or a related field.
Proven experience in environmental education, interpretive center management, or a related field preferred.
Knowledge of sustainability, waste management practices, and environmental conservation.
Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Passion for sustainability and a commitment to fostering positive environmental behavior change.
