JOB REQUIREMENTS: Overview Works under the direction of a surgeon tofacilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgicalprocedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, thatequipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure isconducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Possessesexpertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniqueand combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, andimplementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician\'sperformance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Mayinclude day, evening, night, weekend, holiday, and/or on-call hours.Report-back time for on-call per department guidelines. Performs otherduties as assigned. Responsibilities * Handles the instruments,supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Has anunderstanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needsof the surgeon. Has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensurequality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly onvigil for maintenance of the sterile field. * Assists the surgical teambefore, during, and after surgery by performing the following duties: *Checks instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for surgicalprocedures. * Scrubs, gowns, gloves, and sets up sterile table withinstruments and supplies, equipment and medications/solutions needed foreach procedure * Assists with patient placement and positioning on thetable. Assists in draping sterile field according to procedure/physicianpreference. * Performs appropriate counts for sponges, needles, andinstruments with circulator according to policy prior to the operationand before incision is closed. * Gowns and gloves surgeon andassistants. Creates and maintains sterile field. Maintains higheststandard of sterile technique during procedure. * Passes instruments,etc. to surgeon during procedure. May sponge operative site, holdretractors during surgery, cut suture and cauterize previously clampedvessels as directed by surgeon. Prepares sterile dressings. * Assistsother members of team with cleaning the operating room after eachprocedure. Assists in prepping room for the next patient. *Participates in department performance improvement activities. *Assists in training new personnel. Education and Experience High schooldiploma or general education degree (GED) required Graduate of anCAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program required OR programcurrently participating in accreditation process Certification/LicensureCertified Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA preferred CertifiedSurgical Technologist through NBSTSA required only if program is notaccredited but currently participating in accreditation process.Approved CPR or...
