Job Overview
The Surgical Tech is a clinician who provides intra-operative technicalassistance to physicians and Registered Nurses (RN) who care for patientsexperiencing a surgical intervention or other invasive procedure. The SurgicalTechnician actively participates in the work of the unit, committee work,and program level activities and projects and role models exemplary workstandaThis Surgical Tech position will be located in the Labor and DeliveryDepartment's OB Unit. Experience in C - Section procedures is preferred.

Qualifications
Education: Associate's degree in surgical technology is required.Experience: Proficiciency in C-Sections, Vaginal delivery set ups, andOB workflow preferredEquivalency: Graduate of a military training program in surgical technologyor Diploma in Surgical Technology and Surgical Technologist certification maybe considered in lieu of an Associate's degree.Certification(s): American Heart Association Basic Life Support(BLS) for Healthcare Providers at time of hire. NBSTSA or NCCT CertifiedSurgical Technologist preferred.Licensure(s): State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies(DORA) Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant Registration
Responsibilities
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of thefollowing essential functions. These examples do not include all of thefunctions which the employee may be expected to perform.Assists with room turnovers and set-ups; restocks and orders supplies;utilizes downtime effectively; and participates in department qualityimprovement activities.Promotes patient safety by participating in the surgical time out; labelingmedications on the field; verifying patient weight and allergies with RNprior to passing medications to physician; communication of hand-off of carewhen relieved duri g case; and selection of appropriate instruments andsupplies based on patient size and procedure.Assists with patient positioning and properly identifies specimens.Monitors potential hazards for sharp or burn injury.Safely handles bio-hazardous materials and uses standard precautions andPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE).Utilizes preference cards to prepare for surgical procedure; scrubs allcases as assigned; anticipates needs of case by opening correct supplies andinstruments; is attentive to flow of the surgery so that surgeons' needsare anticipated.Precepts new employees.Participates in departmental, divisional, and/or organizationalcommittees and projects as assigned.Acts as a role model for other team members.
