The intern position is with Hologic's Diagnostics division, which is based in San Diego, CA. Attorneys in this division support the research, development, and commercial activities of our molecular assays, chemical reagents, and automated diagnostic devices.
Throughout the 10-12 weeks you'll have the opportunity to participate in the following:
Work in a capacity similar to an entry-level patent attorney
Projects will relate to drafting patent claims, preparing responses to patent office communications, and reviewing scientific and patent literature
Projects may include agreement review and assisting with adversarial proceedings
We're looking for bright, inquisitive problem solvers who strive to make a difference. Key qualifications include the following:
Able to work full-time over the summer months (May-August)
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program and have at least one semester remaining to complete after the internship
Undergrad degree in Biology, Chemistry or Engineering. Preferably, the candidate will have completed patent law class before the start of the internship
Second or third-year law student
Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.2/4.0
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience or exposure to working with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to work onsite at our San Diego campus. Intern housing, relocation, and housing stipends are not provided.
Candidates should possess at least a basic understanding of the principles of nucleic acid amplification techniques. Before an interview, please have a basic understanding of the components of a nucleic acid amplification reaction, how the amplification devices function, and what is the purpose of nucleic acid amplification in a molecular diagnostics setting.
The hourly pay range for this role is $20 - $40 per hour. Compensation is determined by class standing and operational function.
