ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Intermediate Substation Designer to join our dynamic team of professionals. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of electrical substations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to industry standards. Additionally, your expertise in power system studies will contribute to the optimization of substation designs. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in substation design, proficiency in relevant design tools, and experience in conducting power system studies.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Create detailed substation layouts, incorporating equipment placement, foundations, and clearances.
Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams to accurately represent the design concepts.
Specify and select substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and associated components.
Collaborate with vendors to ensure the procurement of quality equipment within project timelines.
Conduct power system studies, including load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination studies.
Analyze and interpret study results to optimize substation designs for efficiency and reliability.
Utilize power system study findings to optimize substation designs for efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Perform short-circuit and coordination studies to enhance the protection and reliability of the substation system.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate substation design activities into overall project plans.
Provide technical support during the construction, testing, and commissioning phases of substation projects.
Conduct comprehensive reviews of substation designs to ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
Address and resolve any design-related issues promptly to maintain design integrity.
Generate clear and concise design documentation, including equipment specifications, material lists, and as-built drawings.
Prepare progress reports and contribute to project documentation as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Degree in Electrical EngineeringWORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
4+years of experience in substation design and construction
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of:
Proficiency in substation design software and tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP etc.).
Experience in conducting power system studies.
Experience in protection & control, and SCADA considered an asset.
Thorough understanding of relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
