  85% - Case Management and Administration

  Meet with students to assess concern and well-being and develop action plans to empower students to address current and on-going needs.

  Ensure continuity of care, coordinate and track referrals to internal units such as Student Access Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Watkins Health Services, Student Housing, Student Conduct and Community Standards, etc.

  Coordinate student transitions from KU services to external, community providers (e.g. psychiatric/psychological treatment services, alcohol and drug treatment services, etc.)

  Assist in student academic planning through collaborative relationships with Student Access Center, Undergraduate Advising Center, and/or academic units. This could include assisting with student planning for missed academic work, adjusting an academic course load, helping with decision-making related to withdrawal, incompletes, and successful return.

  Maintain a system of follow up for students who have been referred to campus or community resources, including providing services to encourage compliance with recommendations and care plans.

  Maintain accurate case management records in Maxient.

  Assist with absence notifications to Faculty for students needing to be away from campus for three or more classes due to illness, hospitalization, family emergency.

  5% - Outreach

  Assist with the development of outreach efforts to expand awareness for Student Support and Case Management, the Student Care Referral Team, and outreach directed toward encouraging appropriate, positive student behavior.

  Represent Student Support and Case Management at university and community events, as assigned, which may include giving presentations to campus and community group.

  Serve on University-wide and Student Affairs committees and task forces, as needed, including being a Campus Connect Suicide Prevention facilitator.

  5% - Campus Cupboard

  Assist in covering hours for the Cupboard or in providing outreach through events and presentations, as needed.5% - Other duties as assigned.

  Required Qualifications:

  Bachelor's degree with one year of relevant experience or a Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, applied behavioral science, or related field.

  Experience working with or supporting people in high need, who are emotional, or experiencing crisis as evidenced in application materials.

  Experience working cooperatively with others in a team environment as evidenced by application materials.

  Experience working collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, administrators, and other members of the community.

  Excellent written communication skills as evidence by application materials.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, applied behavioral science, or related field.

  One year of professional work experience following graduation or degree attainment.

  Experience in any number of crisis support areas, such as, but not limited to: suicide prevention and interventional work, sexual assault survivor support work, crime victim advocacy, food insecurity, and/or homelessness.

  Experience working in a university setting.

  Familiarity with referral processes and typical campus resources as evidenced by application materials

  Working knowledge of college developmental and mental health issues including dual diagnoses as evidenced by application materials.

  Experience providing consultation to university faculty, staff, and administration.

  Experience working with a student conduct database software, such as Maxient.

  Experience managing confidential and sensitive information.

  Experience applying best practices and appropriate legal/procedural regulations related to addressing students of concern.

  Experience in assisting people in unbiased reflection on behavior, decision-making, and community membership.

  Experience analyzing complex situations as evidenced by application materials and interview.

  Position Overview:

  The Student Support Case Manager is a position within Student Support and Case Management (SSCM), a department within Student Affairs. The Case Manager works with complex student situations that have impacted the student’s ability to successfully function in the University community, or when the student has been disruptive to the community and requires significant behavioral changes to remain in or return to the University. This position is highly collaborative and plays an active role in non-clinical student case management developing and implementing both long and short-term response plans. Examples of concerns include; but, are not limited to transition, physical and mental health, student safety, personal crisis, basic needs insecurity, and integration into campus life. The Case Manager does not provide therapy; rather, the Case Manager will help facilitate a student’s access to, and appropriate utilization of, University and/or community services while coaching students toward appropriate self-care, self-management, autonomy and self-advocacy. This position offers a flexible work schedule, including one remote day/week, no on-call, supportive working environment and leadership, collaborative team and opportunities to explore and participate in KU-involved interest outside of the job description (e.g. teaching a class, facilitating training, planning events), transferrable skills to other places of employment. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Support and Case Management and works collaboratively with other staff members within SSCM and Student Affairs, as well as other on- and off-campus colleagues and partners.

Student Affairs coordinates the development of these services and programs and serves as an advocate for student across the University community.
