Grand Canyon University is seeking a Student Services Manager. The Student Services Manager is responsible for leading a team of Student Service Counselors to ensure that their assigned students’ are progressing academically and ensuring all potential issues, which prevent the student from attaining a college degree, are resolved in a timely fashion to prevent student withdrawal.
Requirements:
Manages, motivates and ensures assigned staff meets goals through mentoring, advising, counseling and communicating.
Works with GCU’s admissions team to enable seamless processes for contacts and prospects.
Contributes to new students’ experience and positively impacts retention by acting as an advocate for GCU.
Remains current with GCU’s programs and is able to inform SSCs about programs and requirements.
Devises strategies to assist SSCs in helping students get financially cleared to start a course.
Ensures institutional and federal compliance by all team members.
Handles escalated student issues and problem solves with SSCs in handling student concerns.
Performs quality control of phone calls and emails.
Generates reports to review statuses for all new and continuing students through program completion to ensure SSCs are handling students as necessary.
Serves as a primary point of contact for all GCU staff who seek information about Student Services operations.
Interacts and strategizes regularly with Admissions Managers, OAR and Financial Aid to eliminate obstacles in operational procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Minimum of one year’s experience in counseling students either academically or financially within higher education preferred.
Prior experience managing and mentoring staff preferred.
Serves as a role model in understanding standard concepts, practices, and procedures of relationship building and quality customer service.
Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; supports and explains reasons for decisions; understands business implication for decisions.
Knowledge of higher-learning environments and programs.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
Excellent highly developed analytical and business writings skills used in report preparation, data interpretation and development of one-on-one additional trainings/coaching documents.
Ability to work on multiple issues/projects/activities simultaneously and work well under limited time constraints.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from GCU management, parents, GCU staff and students.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Computer/office software proficiency including MS Office Suite.
Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
