  Description

  Maritime Operations within Mission Technologies - Nuclear & Environmental Services, is looking for a Structural Engineer 4 to join the team in Newport News, VA.

  Structural Engineers are responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the safety and stability and provides engineering and technical support for the construction, testing, and operation of propulsion and reactor plant components. To accomplish this, they use their knowledge of physics, mathematics, and engineering principles to determine the strength and durability of materials and the structural integrity of the design. They create detailed plans and specifications for construction using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other tools.

  What You Will Do

  This role involves analyzing, researching, and developing specifications for product design and operation using a variety of materials such as metals, non-metallic or composite materials.

  The role requires analyzing damage tolerance, durability, design allowables, and structural modeling.

  Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue, and thermal analysis.

  This role utilizes various software applications such as CATIA, IDEAS, and ProEngineer.

  The role requires frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.

  This role requires the ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks and provide solutions to technical problems of increasing scope and complexity.

  Work is reviewed to ensure sound technical judgment, overall adequacy, and accuracy.

  The role operates under general supervision and contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects.

  Failure to achieve results or inadequate work product may cause delays in program schedules and allocation of additional resources but should be detected by supervisory oversight.

  This role primarily involves internal company contacts, with infrequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine matters.

  What You Must Have

  Candidate is required to have either:

  Nine (9) years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field;

  Or seven (7) years experience with Masters in related field;

  Or four (4) years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.

  Candidate must have successfully completed an undergraduate engineering degree from an ABET accredited program.

  Candidate must be proficient in the use of desktop or personal computers with associated software (i.e., word processing, graphics, database, spreadsheets, etc.) or other computer products as required by the applicable discipline.

  Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

  Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.

  Physical Requirements

  May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
