JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Summary: This position is responsible forsteel fitting equipment, parts, interiors and exteriors of ships, andshipyard buildings at our vast, 63-acre facility. Detailed Description:Follows directions under intermittent supervision. Verify conformance ofwork pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuringtapes. Align and fit parts according to specifications. Move parts intoposition, manually or with hoists or cranes. Position, align, fit, andweld parts to form complete units, following blueprints. Studyengineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials required andtask sequences. Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes,rolls, shears, cutting torches, grinders, and drill presses, to bend,cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metalcomponents. Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to beprocessed to ensure that specifications are met. Tack-weld fitted partstogether. Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portablegrinders, and cutting torches. Mark reference points onto floors or faceblocks and transpose them to work pieces, using measuring devices,squares, chalk, and soapstone. Position or tighten braces, jacks,clamps, ropes, bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding orriveting. Erect ladders and scaffolding to fit together largeassemblies. Design and construct templates and fixtures, using handtools. Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces to cut, bend, and straightenmetal. Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, andpresses. Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your armor while holding your arm in one position. Ability to see details atclose range (within a few feet of the observer). Ability to quickly andrepeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exactpositions. Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to gowrong. Ability to imagine how something will look after it is movedaround or when its parts are moved or rearranged. Ability to quicklymove your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands tograsp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Ability to use your abdominaland lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly orcontinuously over time without \'giving out\' or fatiguing. Diagnose andsolve problems of all kinds. Troubleshoot problems with all equipment asit arises. Proper storage of equipment. May be assigned miscellaneoustasks outside craft as required. Attendance is an essential function ofthe job.
