  About The Team:

  Walmart's Fulfillment Engineering team is a strong, well-established team that is continuing to build out new features to help accelerate our ever-increasing business needs and build out Warehouse Management System (WMS) that powers a network of 10+ High Velocity Fulfillment Centers (HVFCs) across the US. HVFCs also powers Walmart's Walmart Fulfillment Services which is fastest growing business for the company. Walmart's Supply Chain arm is its fastest growing sector so you will learn all the ins-and-outs of the eCommerce and fulfilment operations in one of the largest companies out there.

  This team shares a strong collaborative and learning focused mentality, are growing experts in distributed systems and cloud-first architectures. With a great mix of junior and senior developers, this is an ideal environment to those who are looking to build next generation distributed systems to solve the real-world problems at scale.

  We are embarking on a journey to migrate from current event sourced system that is completely built in F# with a strong focus on the functional programming paradigm. Existing system is designed around Event Sourcing/CQRS principles and is a highly distributed system of hundreds of microservices running in Azure Kubernetes on Walmart's Cloud Native Platform. All communication is done with Kafka. The existing system is being migrated to a next generation event driven best in class platform that is built in JAVA and has the reusability, high fault tolerance and high availability as its core architectural tenet.

  We use the right tool for the job depending on the needs, so we also have heavy use of:

  SQL

  Cosmos DB

  Kafka

  Elastic Search

  As a Staff, Software Engineer on the team you are expected to combine a strong technical passion with leading projects and solving complex problems by collaborating with engineers within and across teams.

  You'll make an impact by:

  Being hands-on with designing highly available, fault tolerant and scalable systems and with technical implementation.

  Having an excellent eye for operational excellence, owning production incidence investigation and resolution.

  Actively participating in brainstorming sessions for new features design or contribute to driving down tech debt.

  Mentoring and pair programming with junior engineers, doing PR and code reviews and holding the team to high coding and technical standards.

  Improving agile process and team development practices thus acting as force multiplier.

  Partnering and collaborating closely with product managers and other business stakeholders during the agile software development lifecycle.

  You'll sweep us off our feet if you have:

  F# and/or functional Programming experience.

  Azure cloud (Cosmos DB) experience.

  Kafka experience.

  Ability to think out of the box and/or come up with data backed approaches to solving problems.

  You enjoy owning and solving complex problems without being told.

  What you'll bring:

  8+ years' experience in any major programming language, preferably JAVA.

  Strong experience building cloud-first systems with deep knowledge of benefits and challenges.

  Very strong experience with heavily distributed systems architectures.

  Ability to choose between availability and consistency when practical.

  Proven ability to design and own the end-to-end projects/features in an Agile setting.
