  Responsibilities

  Position Summary:

  Under the Director or designee the staff nurse provides and documents goals-oriented nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in accordance with the philosophy and policies of St. Mary’s Medical Center. The staff nurse utilizes principles of the nursing process and coordinates clinically related activities to provide for the effective delivery of healthcare. Responsible to supervise the care given by the Licensed Vocational Nurses Licensed Psychiatric Technicians. Hospital/Psychiatric Attendants and other working under his/her direction. Applies Dingity Health Core Values to the performance of every job duty. These Values include Dignity Collaboration Justice Stewardship and Excellence.

  Cares for patients in ICU and /or other areas in the Medical Center as necessary.

  Assesses all systems as indicated throughout the shift and informs physician of significant changes.

  Documents clearly and legibly all findings in the clinical record.

  Delivers care utilizing scientific principles.

  Follows established clinical policies, procedures and protocols for practice including but not limited to medication administration, IV and blood therapy. Universal Body substance precautions.

  Recognizes signs and symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress or other impending crisis; initiates emergency action, directs others and summons assistance.

  Identifies actual or potential problems amendable to nursing intervention and enters these on the Patient Care Plan along with specific goals and interventions. Includes patient and family in plan of care.

  Provides teaching to patient/family as need is identified and documents same.

  Uses computerized clinical information system effectively.

  Assists with orientation of new staff, registry, etc. by serving as a buddy/preceptor.

  Actively participates in Nursing Quality Improvement activities.

  Qualifications

  REQUIREMENTS

  Must have completed a Critical Care Course and documented clinical competency relevant to Critical Care.

  Must have one year of acute care clinical experience as a Registered Nurse and have clinical competence relevant to the patient care area.

  Minimum of 3-5 years combined experience in healthcare industry 1-2 years of experience with a minimum of 1 year in area of related field Complete annual safety training.

  Complete and maintain department specific training. Must have leadership ability and good communication and interpersonal skills.

  Must complete and score 80% or over on the Critical Care tests of the specific Critical Care Unit and complete the Critical Care competencies.

  Ability to read and speak English clearly and be understood. 1) ACLS Certification required 3) Current license in the State of California as a Registered Nurse 4) American Heart Association BLS certification

  Pay Range

  $69.47 - $84.81 /hour
