Milwaukee Tool is looking for an Industrial Designer to join its in-house design team. Their main duties center around product development activities by exploring form, operation, aesthetics, and interactions between the user and the product or system. The Staff Industrial Designer will work with more autonomy than an associate-level designer. The Staff Industrial Designer will report to the Lead ID or ID Manager.

The TOOLS you’ll need to have:
Explore concept generation through ideation, competitive assessments, and identification of unmet user needs.
Develop designs through strong sketching, tight technical drawings, CAD/surfacing, high-quality renderings, hand-built mock-ups, and 3D printed models.
Communicate the design intent through visual storytelling to gain acceptance by project teams.
Participate in brainstorming and concept-generation events to establish opportunities to explore and develop.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, primarily marketing and engineering, to deliver designs based on established criteria.
Thrives in collaborative team environments and can work on several projects concurrently.
Create the documentation necessary to convey the design direction to management or cross-functional partners through renderings, models, mechanical drawings, and written reports.
Present designs for phase-gate milestone approval to ID, Marketing, and Engineering leadership.
Evaluate and apply fundamentals of ergonomics and usability to the product solution.
Participate in internal research downloads, review of research reports, and participation in hands-on activities related to projects. Occasionally participate in observational job site visits to understand user requirements.
Collaborate with Design Research and Product Management teams to analyze and shape observations into valuable insights.
Experience with complex products that factor manufacturing and cost parameters.
Propose construction, mechanisms, color, materials, surface finish, and manufacturing processes in cooperation with other business functions that are involved in the new product development process.
Design in compliance with the Milwaukee visual brand language (VBL) guidelines.
Continually monitor design trends involving form, materials, technology etc.
Monitor projects through preproduction stages to ensure detailing and design intent are intact.
The TOOLS you’ll bring with you:
BS, BA or BFA in Industrial Design
3+ years of professional experience designing in a product development environment.
Proficient communication of process through visual thinking, storyboards, mock-ups, sketching, rendering, etc.
Dynamic portfolio of product designs, demonstrating process through sketches, renderings, visual thinking, storyboards, and CAD modeling.
Demonstrate the ability to collaborate in a team environment and handle multiple projects.
Exceptional professional communication skills.
