About Staff Associate II - Critical Care & Hospital Medicine

  This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Staff Associate II is an exciting one.   The Connors Laboratory within the Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly qualified Lab Manager / Staff Associate II to coordinate, plan, and conduct research related to the labs' investigations of early life adaptive immune development. Investigations will include interrogation of the normal development of early life immune responses, dissecting pathways of immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 (including pediatric Long COVID), RSV, and Influenza, and the impact of nutrition on pediatric immune responses. Selected candidate will use a mix of human subjects, tissue donor resources, and mouse models to perform required research. The candidate should be familiar with and prepared to apply functional assays of immune responses including circulating antibody levels against viruses as well as analysis of adaptive immune cell antigen specificity, differentiation states and functional profiles using primary immune cell culture, single cell RNA sequencing, and flow cytometry. In addition, the candidate will assist with assay optimization and data analysis for planned and follow-up experiments.

  The Connors lab is focused on the development of adaptive immune responses, particularly T cells, during infancy and childhood. The lab works collaboratively with physicians in general pediatrics, otolaryngology, and pediatric critical care to obtain blood and tissue specimens as a foundation part of our research. Additionally, the lab supports and collaborates on a human pediatric organ donor resource in the Farber laboratory to study tissue specific immune cell development and responses.

  Key Responsibilities:

  Process and preserve human blood and tissue samples for single cell suspension or imaging studiesPlan, coordinate, and conduct experiments using flow cytometry, ELISA, PCR, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and/or RNA sequencingOrganize, analyze, and maintain data generated by experimentsManage lab suppliesMaintenance of animal colonies (when applicable)Coordinate with collaborators on shared sample resources

  PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  Must have a Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4 years of experience;Master's degree preferredPrior experience with flow cytometry and analysis of datasets generated by flow cytometry is strongly preferred.Prior experience working with human blood and/or tissue samples is preferred.Prior experience with computational data analysis is an advantage.Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines.The ability to create a high-energy results-oriented work environment that encourages colleagues and staff to value each other's contributions; andThe ability to share and celebrate success with colleagues and staff.Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran

  The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
