SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the design, implementation, support, security compliance, and disaster recovery of Tower’s enterprise virtualization, server (physical and virtual), virtual desktops, and storage (SAN) infrastructure. In addition, this position will oversee and manage the enterprise email messaging system and automated patching system. This position assigns and oversees the daily work activities of the virtualization, storage, and server System Engineer(s) in conjunction with the AVP, Technical Services.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Designs, manages, secures, and supports Tower’s virtual, server, and storage infrastructure.
Designs, manages, secures, automate and supports VMware virtualized datacenters.
Strong working familiarity with VMware vSphere datacenter and cloud, VMware vSphere virtual desktop, including hands-on experience configuring and managing Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) server infrastructure.
Assesses performance, reliability and integrity of Tower’s virtual, server, and storage infrastructure to ensure it meets the present and future needs of the business. Provides short-term and long-term systems infrastructure planning recommendations to management.
Oversees the maintenance of current and complete documentation of systems infrastructure specifications. This includes descriptions and diagrams in accordance with standards established in conjunction with the Manager, Technical Services. This includes problem logs, alerts, and filing regular periodic status reports.
Deploys, maintain, and enhance the security of virtual, server, storage and virtual desktop systems through administrative, preventive, detective, and reactive controls, such as change and configuration management, patch management, and vulnerability scanning in accordance with company and divisional security directives. Adheres to approved technology and security standards and development of baseline configurations in accordance with these standards.
Analyzes systems infrastructure activity to discover and prevent systematic errors. Recommends system design changes and enhancements for improved availability and performance.
Provides systems infrastructure capacity planning and monitoring requirements.
Provides technical support assessment for complex projects and project plan development in support of Tower’s requirements. Subject matter expert and team lead in projects requiring systems infrastructure technical leadership.
Coordinates the daily work of the Technical Services systems infrastructure engineers to include helping prioritize tasks and determine work assignments, and following through on tasks and functions to satisfactory completion. Provides input to the Manager in reference to the performance management process.
Develops, recommends and implements infrastructure parameters, policies, standards and procedures, including regular updates. Coordinates and oversees the installation of new systems software releases in coordination with IS Operations, Software Services, Information Security and user departments.
Responsible for life cycle management and capacity planning of enterprise infrastructure hardware and software as related to virtual data centers, virtual servers/desktops, and storage area networks.
Responsible for establishing and testing system and infrastructure recovery including DR/BCP procedures.
Responsible for compliance and automation of approved configuration security baselines of virtual, server, and storage infrastructure.
Responsible for remediation of security vulnerability audit findings as related to systems infrastructure and in coordination with the Manager, assessment of findings and response to include risks and remedial actions.
Trains and mentors level I, II, and III Systems Engineers. Ensures cross-training and support coverage for Tower’s systems infrastructure.
Acts as the manager in his/her absence.
Performs related duties when delegated.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, engineering, or a related technical discipline. Experience to include:
Five to eight years of relevant and successful experience managing complex enterprise virtual, server, and storage infrastructure.
Experience to include five years in one or a combination of the following:
successfully planning, designing, deploying and managing virtualized datacenter solutions, including server and desktop infrastructure (preferably with VMware/UCS).
managing security compliance and configuration standardization of virtual, server, and storage infrastructure
planning, designing, deploying and managing Microsoft server infrastructure including Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange (on premises, online, or cloud)
managing Red Hat Linux servers
managing automated patching systems
Or, an equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience.
Certification in at least one of the following: Cisco CCNA or CCNP, Microsoft MCSA or MCSE, VMware VCP and/or other relevant industry certifications.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods and demonstrate sufficient dexterity and vision to operate a variety of office equipment.
Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. with or without assistance.
Ability to work the hours needed which may extend beyond the defined work schedule when operating conditions dictate
Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
Responsible for being available 24X7 via mobile and landline communications to support systems operations.
Must be willing to travel to remote worksites to include DR/BCP centers, branches, and vendor sites.
Occasional lifting from floor, as well as table height, and transporting of moderately heavy (up to 50 lbs.) objects, such as computers and infrastructure components.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to operate other computer components.
