This hands-on position requires broad engineering competence and demonstrated experience successfully leading complex safety critical system development in a dynamic environment. You will work alongside product management, research, design, engineering (software/hardware), and compliance to define and build impactful devices on our Energy & Sustainability Initiatives roadmap.

Key job responsibilities
As a Sr. System Safety Engineer you will...
Collaborate with architects and designers to find optimal implementations of functional safety in hardware and software
Make cross-functional trade-offs between subsets of the following dimensions: performance, schedule, cost, risk, opportunity, complexity, and scale
Work on the optimization, automation, and training of engineering teams and development of standard methodologies to ensure fast execution
Own development and maintenance of clear, concise, and verifiable product safety requirements and reduce ambiguity and complexity for others
Decompose and allocate safety requirements into straightforward tasks, components, or features.
Ensure systems are developed within a process that results in end-to-end traceability and achievement of both system safety targets and product requirements
Lead technical risk assessments and failure mode identification
Collaborate closely with compliance engineers to meet all required safety certifications
Guide the team that is implementing safety-related software and hardware solutions
Drive the creation and use of standard operating procedures across the product development team

Basic Qualifications
5+ years experience in systems or safety engineering
Strong statistical and reliability fundamentals
Experience working with safety and requirements management software tools
Experience developing Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Trees, Reliability Predictions, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), System Safety Assessment (SSA), and Functional Decomposition
Excellent written and verbal communications; ability to explain complex concepts to colleagues across disciplines.
Proficient working with cross functional teams to drive analysis of complex systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency working under UL1998/991, IEC60730, or similar functional safety certification processes
Experience defining and maintaining requirements for functional safety systems
Deep knowledge performing functional safety analyses in complex hardware and software systems
Experience developing and implementing safety related processes and documentation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
