  Job Description:

  Senior mechanical design engineer with a strong knowledge of ground support equipment (GSE) to support propulsion systems assembly and testing. Can perform complex design tasks or projects with general oversight. Communicates within and outside of mechanical design to gain cooperation on operational processes, practices, and procedures. Makes moderate to substantial improvements to systems and processes. Contributes to achievement of departmental goals and operating plans with direct impact on the departmental results.

  Essential Functions:

  • The selected candidate will perform mechanical design engineering assignments requiring application of engineering principles, theories and concepts to develop ground support equipment (GSE) or special test equipment (STE) hardware for spacecraft and missile programs. Work is performed independently and reviewed by senior staff.

  • Creates mechanical GSE/STE designs for system level assembly and high pressure/extreme environments as applicable. Interprets engineering models and drawings to ensure that designs meet requirements for functionality, producibility, safety and budget. Evaluate technical input from hardware suppliers and work with cross functional teams on producibility improvements and overall potential cost savings. Candidate will participate in trade studies and preliminary designs using 3D CAD modeling software tools (Creo).

  Prepares and delivers technical presentations for internal and external customers.

  Supports creation of engineering reports to support tolerance studies, engineering analyses, or failure investigations.

  May support development and qualification testing for new product development. Creates

  GSE/STE integration hardware to support flow testing, vibration testing and hot-fire testing. May support hands-on work during test preparation.

  Prepares engineering drawings with associated geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in

  accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards. Actively participates in team meetings to ensure design tasks meet program needs. May lead the work of design staff or oversee the work of product definition designers.

  Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and minimal six (6) years of experience or equivalent ten (10) years of relevant prior industry experience.

  Knowledge of AR design processes and tools (Creo 5.0+, Windchill, Industry/Government Specifications)

  Ability to solve and complete complex design tasks/projects through effective planning, coordination and execution.

  Demonstrated effective technical presentation skills using online meeting tools.

  In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $97,500 - $181,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
