  Job Description

  Senior Manager – Associate Director, Business Partnering & Category management, Gilead Japan

  For over 30 years, Gilead has been a leading innovator in treating and preventing HIV, but this expertise is just a foundation for our ambitions. We are excited to begin our transformation journey by designing a new Procurement Operating Model and forward-looking technology and strategic roadmaps, ultimately re-shaping our approach to Procurement.

  In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with key stakeholder groups in Gilead Japan based in Tokyo. You will support the development and implementation of Procurement strategies that result in the delivery of value beyond savings for a broad group of Affiliate stakeholders in Japan.

  This role will require you to liaise with Global Procurement Category Managers responsible for developing and managing procurement strategies for globally managed categories of spend across our global markets. Bringing your knowledge of Affiliate requirements and business needs, you will support the development of these global category strategies and drive local adoption and adherence to these strategies.

  For locally managed categories of spend, you will work collaboratively with the Gilead Japan team to develop and implement category strategies that deliver value beyond savings for the Affiliate. You will also collaborate with Affiliate stakeholders to develop and implement sourcing strategies for high value services.

  During 2024, you may also be required to liaise with the Global Sourcing and Delivery function as this team’s responsibilities broaden to include international markets. You may also be asked to carry out business partnering activities, or tasks associated with the implementation of category strategies, in other markets in the Asia Pacific region.

  Job Description

  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establish a local Procurement Business Partner role with regular, monthly, engagement with the leadership team to gain insight into strategic planning, budgeting, and target setting.

  • Collaborate with Gilead Japan’s leadership team across functions to identify procurement requirements aligned with business strategies and business priorities.

  • Act as a ‘strategic thought partner’ to the wider Business while aligning on business objectives, challenges, projects and other requirements.

  • Create a compelling case for change and inspire stakeholders to collaborate and realize the value Procurement brings to their business plan.

  • Manage a holistic portfolio end-to-end, supporting the implementation of an array of category strategies and Affiliate specific Projects.

  • Work closely with all Gilead Japan teams, including finance, legal, IT to ensure compliant, consistent, and efficient delivery of procurement support.

  • Partner with Global Category Managers to develop global category strategies, sharing Affiliate business objectives, desired product/service specifications and projected demand.

  • Partner with Global Category Managers to drive Affiliate adherence to global category strategies and proactively identify category opportunities to create value for the Affiliate. Provide ongoing local category / program governance for implemented global category strategies.

  • Develop local category strategies in close collaboration with Affiliate stakeholders, ensuring stakeholders have a holistic view of Affiliate demand and supply options.

  • For locally managed categories, develop relationship with key suppliers and meet key stakeholders annually to identify customer satisfaction and supplier improvement opportunities.

  • For strategic sourcing projects, consult with Affiliate stakeholders and the Global Sourcing and Delivery function to support the development of effective supplier negotiation strategies and successful execution of Affiliate approved sourcing projects.

  • Establish and monitor key performance metrics, such as a pipeline of sourcing activities / cost savings, risk management priorities, market intelligence, preferred supplier maintenance, Supplier Relationship Management, as well as status of category strategies relevant to the Affiliate.

  • Provide regular (monthly) dashboard status briefings to management, proactively highlighting issues that require awareness or attention.

  • Drive development and communication cadence on strategies, ensuring alignment with senior leadership. Generate senior leader-level presentations.

  • Drive use of procurement best practices & standardization of processes whilst minimizing supply risk.

  • Collaborate with Procurement Supplier Inclusion and Sustainability teams to integrate supplier diversity and responsible procurement goals as part of an overall value proposition for the Affiliate.

  • Drive procurement impact and directly improve experience of Procurement for all Gilead Japan stakeholders.

  Requirement (Education, Knowledge, Experience, Competencies and Skills)

  Experience Requirements:

  • 8+ years professional work experience plus a BS/BA (or the equivalent), or 5+ years professional work experience plus a MA/MS or MBA (or the equivalent) in a corporate environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership and effective business partnering capabilities. Influence without authority mindset.

  • Experience supporting Procurement projects working directly with business partners to execute on defined scope, budget and transformation results.

  • Clearly demonstrated experience of delivering Procurement projects, working as an individual, completing projects on time and to stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Proven track record of applying procurement principles, concepts, best practices, and standards along with an in-depth knowledge of industry practices.

  • Ability to support the development of category and sourcing strategies by identifying opportunity areas, with a proven record of effectively directing and leveraging procurement spend in assigned category areas by leading cross functional teams.

  • Experience managing and maintaining strong supplier relationships.

  • Strong leadership presence and negotiation/contract management experience.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with procurement/spend systems data and analysis.

  • Knowledge and experience of strategic sourcing process.

  • Experience working with and leading multiple projects and teams simultaneously across a matrixed organization.

  • Demonstrate strong business acumen and integrity in decision making.

  • Meets Gilead’s leadership commitments with demonstrated experience in applying these principles.

  • Good communication skills with both English and Japanese language capabilities.
