Sr. Manager, Benefits and Wellbeing Programs
Purpose of Job
The Senior Manager, Benefits and Wellbeing Programs is a member of the Total Rewards Leadership Team, responsible for providing strategic leadership and management of the Benefits and Relocation Services Department. This includes assisting with the corporate planning, strategy development, and overall management of MITRE’s benefit programs, relocations, and expatriate services. The Sr. Manager will lead the design and administration of employee benefit programs and relocation services, in alignment with MITRE’s total rewards strategy, focusing on maximizing employee experience at an efficient price point within our fringe rate and overhead budget. The Senior Manager will be accountable for designing a comprehensive benefits and wellbeing strategy, focusing on both the sustainability and scalability of MITRE’s programs, while creating a multi-year plan for efficiency and modernization. The Senior Manager, Benefits and Wellbeing Programs will report to the Director of Total Rewards, HR Technology and Employee Services.
Essential Job Functions
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Manager, Benefits and Wellbeing Programs are:
Develops, implements, and manages plans and strategies for medical, health and welfare, retirement, absence, and deferred compensation that outline actions to support short and long-range business objectives in alignment with MITRE’s talent strategy.
Ensures 401(a), 403(b), 457(b), Voluntary Benefit programs, and wellness initiatives are competitive and managed effectively.
Develops and manages benefit plans that provide value to employees, are cost-effective for the organization, and meet defined objectives.
Manages the growing need for benefits for MITRE international presence among newly established branches and subsidiaries.
Manages the relationship with benefits vendors and MITRE’s benefits broker.
Manages MITRE Wellbeing Programs and Strategy for improving employee wellbeing.
Leads request for proposals for benefit programs and relocation services in partnership with subcontracts and/or MITRE’s benefit broker.
Analyzes and projects costs for all benefit programs, while using analysis in determining recommendations for changes to benefit plans and design.
Ensures and delivers effective benefit communications, while working cooperatively with the communications team in the production of benefit-related messages and material
Strategizes plans for and leading and managing annual open enrollment.
Determines appropriate communication strategy to educate employees on benefit programs and changes.
Acts as a liaison with carriers, vendors, and consultants on various matters such as plan design, contracts, coverage, and renewals
Assures all company-sponsored plans, including their design and changes thereto, follow all relevant legal requirements and ERISA reporting and disclosure requirements.
Leads, coaches, manages, and develops the Benefits and Relocation Services Department
Ensures relocation program strategies are aligned with business needs for all levels of employees including interns.
Stays up to date on compliance, ERISA, market trends and legal issues associated with Benefits and Relocation Services
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
·Requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
At least 2 or more years of people management experience of a benefits team
Experience in a complex benefits program organization, with both self-insured and fully insured solutions
Comprehensive understanding of 401(a), 403(b), 457(b) programs
Experience communicating and educating benefits change management initiatives to all employee levels.
Market awareness to influence and support negotiations with partners to include benefit vendors and brokers.
Demonstrated experience solving complex benefits issues.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and sound influential skills
Ability to effectively manage several objectives simultaneously while prioritizing objectives and driving strategic plans.
Process improvement oriented and the ability to make recommendations and decisions.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to work through processes, identify and implement process improvements and resolve complex situations.
Flexible and proactive problem solver
Demonstrated success in a dynamic, frequently changing, and fast paced environment.
