About Sr Financial Analyst

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Designs, develops, and enhances current financial management systems. Prepares financial reports and statements from varied data sources. Oversees contract and grant finances from government, foundations and/or other bodies. Resolves complex problems or problems where precedent may not exist. Provides financial and administrative leadership for lower-level employees.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Operations

Manages workflows for financial support staff and liaises with necessary institutional administrative offices to ensure that key financial tasks are accomplished on time and in compliance with institutional and federal requirements across all managed grants, contracts, and funded programs.

Acts as a key technical expert on financial analysis issues, concerns, and special projects.

Interfaces with top management, responding to their requests for financial data and to resolve reporting and compliance issues.

Coordinates, negotiates, and resolves financial compliance issues with various governmental agencies to ensure curate interpretation.

Reporting

Prepares special reports and financial studies for management and alerts them to significant variances to plan.

Regularly reports on the status of managed grant and contract activities; develops and revises relevant reports and workflows as needed; and provide operational-support allowing leadership to make evidence-based, strategic decisions about ongoing program development.

Works directly with leadership staff to develop and revise workflows that streamline data collection efforts for reporting purposes.

Works with program leadership, administrative, and evaluation teams to produce annual reports required by funding agencies.

Manages the input of data related to studies and appointments by utilizing NIH and other sponsored project systems.

Responds to requests from leadership for data reports used to support grant and contract development, board meetings, annual reports, and the websites.

Forecasting

Analyze financial data from varied sources to guide critical decision making.

Utilize complex Excel models to analyze future finances, as well as develop new forecasting tools in Excel.

Administrative Support

Supervises Grant Management Specialist II to ensure finance and budgetary requirements of research and clinical programs remain compliant with university and federal guidelines and to address related issues as needed.

Provides guidance and training to staff to ensure that financial needs are being met and identify needs and challenges.

Grant and Contract Management

Coordinates expenditure controls and reviews and approves invoices on relevant grants and contracts.

Reviews and updates RFAs and NOAs to ensure compliance and alignment with current institutional or federal guidelines.

Grant and Contract Proposal Submission

Provides detailed financial and administrative information for grant and contract applications and proposal preparation, and coordinates application submission with University grant office and various sponsors.

Manages grant and contract applications including creating complex budget spreadsheets, justifications, and projections.

Develops supporting materials and outlines grant and contract submission information, requirements, and deadlines.

Once an award is received, serves as staff liaison between department and the University’s ORPA office.

Other Duties

Builds and maintains inter-departmental relationships with other research bodies.

Identifies potential collaborations, program improvements or risks.

Contributes as active member of the team, providing feedback and recommendations to support the needs of the programs.

Keeps current on key issues affecting strategic initiatives and operational imperatives.

Ability to originate, authorize or approve transactions associated with sponsored programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business or related field required.

Master’s degree in related field.

5 years of financial analysis or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Grants administration experience and program management in higher education required.

Leadership and excellent organizational skills; attention to detail required.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary required.

Must be skilled with Microsoft Office software, including Outlook,

Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

Proficient in database management and reporting software required.

Familiarity with federal NIH-grant reporting mechanisms preferred.

Experience in scientific grant/manuscript preparation assistance preferred.

CLASP certification, within 12 months required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $70,197 - $105,295 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
