  Description

  The Senior Associate Director, Business Intelligence will be responsible for driving strategic direction and oversight of the Livestock & Equine Business Intelligence team. They partner with marketing, finance, supply chain, and sales. This strategic leader frames, investigates and answers key business questions related to our products and the markets in which they compete, as well as our customers and competitors. Leading a team of professionals in Competitive Intelligence and business analysis, the Senior Associate Director drives the implementation of best-in-class analytic approaches to address complex multi-factorial business challenges and drive results for our strategic brands. The Senior Associate Director ensures that analyses are integrated and provide objective in-depth understanding of markets, product performance, customers and competitors. The Senior Associate Director drives thought leadership by managing analytic problem-solving in collaboration with commercial teams, cross functional team members and vendors to address strategic questions, generate timely and actionable insights and recommendations, and secure management action through influential communication. This role is responsible for leading a team of highly skilled Business Intelligence Analysts who will consult on data and insight needs back into the US AH Commercial Operations business. This position is critical to ensure that BI utilizes a wide array of reliable analytics techniques to deliver data-driven Sales and Marketing intelligence based on the species he or she supports. Specific areas of focus include working with the solutions and data delivery team to deliver and optimize solutions for data transparency, aligning data visualization and analytics capabilities with business goals, transforming data into knowledgeable information, and delivering actionable visual insights, to the right people, at the right time, to enable the business to make more of the right decisions.   Duties and Responsibilities

  Leadership:

  • Ensures that the team is staffed with qualified, highly motivated talent.

  • Inspires ownership, accountability, initiative, and engagement within the entire team by regularly communicating BI's vision, business objectives, performance expectations and outcomes, and future action steps.

  • Supports the Data and solution delivery team regarding cross functional strategic initiatives related to data quality and integrity, leads and executes data investigations, and recommends process improvements across governed processes.

  • Provides strategic direction that will lead to improved operating efficiencies and enhanced user experience.

  • Actively develops people within their organization and supports learning opportunities and encourages others to own their careers and take full advantage of BI career development offerings.

  Communication:

  • Presents and facilitates meetings adapting content to the different audiences.

  • Establishes open, transparent communication on a one-on-one basis.

  • Manages different stakeholders and influence behaviors related to the use of the information by communicating success, concerns, risks, and status updates on related work.

  • Collaborates with peers to share learnings, core processes, systems, and best practices.

  • Cultivates teamwork by facilitating cross department communication.

  • Resolves disputes and conflict by having challenging conversations while maintaining composure.

  • Understands and empathizes with disparate groups to achieve alignment on the best course of action forward for the business.

  Business Intelligence:

  • Oversees advanced analytics for product campaigns that span across all channels.

  • Supports the customer experience, digital and brand teams in developing/optimizing promotion, developing campaign strategies, and transforming data into a story built on insights and actionable recommendations.

  • Ensures that Department goals are aligned with Livestock & Equine goals and priorities.

  • Deploys Department resources accordingly and sets annual objectives and budgets.

  • Adapts deployment as needed in support of business evolving needs to ensure that financial and operational objectives are met, while ensuring that corporate standards of excellence, company policies, compliance and ethical business practices are upheld by members of the Department.

  • Works with the data and solutions delivery team to manage the development, standardization, automation, and delivery of Key Commercial Operations Performance Indicators.

  • Directs analysts in gathering/refreshing requirements from Commercial Operations and Commercial Excellence.

  • Guides team in development and delivery of KPI delivery platforms to include static slides and spreadsheets as well as interactive, live dashboards using an array of tools.

  • Serves as a SME to support the data and solution delivery team in the effort to consolidate, standardize, validate, automate, and maintain the standard suite of business-critical reports.

  • Supports the data and solution delivery team in defining best data and reporting stabilization methodologies and influences/executes on best practices for data storage, recall, cleansing, and merging for use in KPI reporting.

  • Directs the team in development and production of interactive dashboards. This includes providing structural and content guidelines in accordance with industry best practices.

  • Ensures CI plans are in line with customer and brand strategy

  • Leads all aspects of business analysis, managing analytics professionals in support of Livestock & Equine.

  • Identifies decision support needs and existing gaps for internal customer decision makers, ensures integration of all appropriate data into analyses and provides holistic, clearly communicated deliverables that address business questions and drive business results.

  • Manages projects to merge internal data with 3rd party data to inform Commercial Operations on market conditions and market opportunities.

  • Ensures that appropriate CI methodologies are applied to provide deep analyses that:

  o enable rich understanding of likely future markets, customers (including vets and retail) and competitors.

  o yield insights and recommendations to guide high-level decisions affecting product development and in-licensing opportunities that provide pipeline brands with competitive advantage.

  o allocate appropriate team resources for critical Commercial Operations data analyses (e.g., market opportunity and customer targeting).

  Consultancy:

  • Regularly consults Commercial Operations on data, reporting, and insights to understand and interpret their needs for Commercial Excellence.

  • Prepares and presents concise, actionable insights based on these interactions.

  • Regularly consults and collaborates with all verticals, provide insights to other teams as needed and gather requirements from those teams to inform analyses.

  Business Subject Matter Expert:

  • Drives and challenges business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their strategy.

  • Facilitates the communication and translation of business user requirements and solutions between the customer community (internal and external customers).

  • Assists stakeholders to diagnose problems and understand business needs.

  Data Stewardship:

  • Actively supports all aspects of the BI Data Governance Program.

  • Identifies causes of poor data quality management, implements solutions and communicates findings to employees, management, and stakeholders.

  • Ensures processes adhere to data management policy.

  • Collaborates with Business Process owners and Data Stewards to develop methods for synchronizing data entering company systems.

  • Responsible for ensuring issues and/or outages are communicated to the user community.

  • Leads postmortem meetings and report out on data impacts and outages across organization in a manner which instills confidence in issue understanding, impact and next steps along with prevention/elimination recommendations.

  • Understands inter-relationship of systems and processes which could be corrupt data impacting events and recommend course of action.

  • Models the behaviors of championing data as an asset.

  • Data Cubes:

  o Acts as a SME in the Generation and maintenance of data cubes within the data warehouse environment.

  o Manages Quality Assurance process to regularly ensure accurate report delivery.

  Strategic Projects:

  • Directs projects or sub teams as needed to execute objectives.

  • Creates and implements a project contract or charter or plan to include but are not limited to executive summary, objectives, scope, timeline, milestones, deliverables, organization, impacts, benefits, cost, assumptions, risks, and leadership approvals.

  • Utilizes agile project methodology to include kick off, requirements, alpha, beta, final review, and user acceptance testing.

  • Defines and articulates the business benefit of respective project.

  • Leads the required change management and communication across functional teams for any respective assigned project.

  • Engages field leadership to gain buy in to support the respective project.

  Requirements

  SR AD, Business Intelligence Requirements:

  Master's Degree from an accredited institution in mathematics, business, computer science preferred.

  Six-plus (6+) years of experience in US Animal Health and/or Human Pharma (or similar industry).

  Six-plus (6+) years of leading people or projects.

  Demonstrated understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, practices, and standards including knowledge and use of Animal Health or Pharma data and working knowledge of industry practices.

  Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas, facts, and technical information to senior management, as well as other internal customers both verbally and written.

  Demonstrated excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work with other disciplines.

  Ability to train user groups and key stakeholders.

  Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.

  Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and coordinate efforts with colleagues from several functional areas.

  Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in the fast paced environment.

  Basic knowledge of market research analytical frameworks for conducting and analyzing primary market research .

  Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills.

  Requires prior experience interfacing with business stakeholders and creating data-driven solutions based on business needs.

  A deep analytical understanding, as well as an intimate knowledge of the animal health market, the competitive landscape, and business unit objectives is essential.

  A strong understanding of typography and how it can affect visualizations as well as layout, space and an inherent feel for motion.

  Models willingness to learn and stay up-to-date.

  Effective analytical and problem solving skills.

  Must achieve results in a highly matrixed organization.

  Ability to manage budget and resources.

  Ability to travel (may include overnight travel).

  Director, Business Intelligence Requirements:

  Master's Degree from an accredited institution in mathematics, business, computer science required.

  Ten-plus (10+) years of experience in US Animal Health and/or Human Pharma (or similar industry).

  Ten-plus (10+) years of experience leading people or projects.

  Ten-plus (10+) years of market / primary research experience.

  Requires prior experience interfacing with business stakeholders and creating data-driven solutions based on business needs.

  A deep analytical understanding, as well as an intimate knowledge of the animal health market, the competitive landscape, primary research techniques and leading practices as well as business unit objectives is essential.

  Demonstrated understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, practices, and standards including knowledge and use of Animal Health or Pharma data and working knowledge of industry practices.

  Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas, facts, and technical information to senior management, as well as other internal customers both verbally and written.
