SQL Developer
The SQL Developer is responsible for building a high-performance cloud data platform for data analytics and business intelligence (BI) reporting. The developer is responsible for driving the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the enterprise data warehouse architecture in support of our cloud data strategy. The SQL Developer will be responsible for building the data warehouse architecture and data models for more efficient reporting. SQL Developer will report into the Director, Data Analytics.
Essential Functions
Develop data-centric solutions to meet the University needs with a focus on integrating existing silo data and providing data solutions that reflect the integrated landscape
Develop reports to support data analysis needs of business users within the university, including both ad hoc and pre-defined reports using data from the Operational Data Store
Provide support and issue resolution by analyzing issues, discovering root cause, and providing alternative long-term solutions to resolve
Proactively communicate and collaborate with business users to analyze information needs and develop functional requirements
Transform complex customer business requirements into effective, efficient, and maintainable enterprise-level solutions
Research, analyze, support, and implement database solutions and changes on the data warehouse platform
Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database creating a data dictionary
Mitigate existing disparate data sources into the enterprise data warehouse
Define and capture metadata and rules associated with ETL processes
Develop data visualizations, dashboards and reports and using Tableau and/or other analytics software
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced database architecture design, data transformations, SQL, stored procedures, etc.
Business analysis experience required; hands on experience in process mapping, process improvement and process re-engineering strongly preferred.
Experience working with complex data sets
Demonstrates continued personal and professional development
Experience in Agile and other project management methods
Ability to demonstrate critical, analytical thinking
Ability to be highly productive, both working independently and in close collaboration within a team environment
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences (technical and non-technical, staff and managerial), and in a wide range of settings (e.g., one-on-one, small group, in person, conference calls and via e-mail)
Qualifications
BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar technical degree or equivalent experience.
At least 5 – 7 years of Business Intelligence, Operational Data Stores and Data Warehousing.
Hours and Travel
A typical work week is Monday through Friday
Flexible hours required to implement strategy, enterprise initiatives and execute deliverables
Must be flexible in coming in early, working late or during non-work hours as needed
The anticipated salary range for SQL Developer is $85,000 to $100,000. The final salary offered may vary and will be determined based on factors such as the job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education of the successful candidate. This information is provided per NYS local law.
