Job Summary:
The overall purpose of this position is to support software development and data analytics initiatives related to IEEE's publication operations and applications. The incumbent in this position will work under the supervision of a data engineer to assist in building data extract, transformation, load and retrieval processes into our Amazon EMR and RedShift repositories. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills in tools such as Tableau, Redshift, EMR, Spark etc. The role reports to the Director, Applications and Systems Development, and has no direct reports. This position works under close supervision, but the candidate should be a self-starter with good technical and analytical skills and a passion for learning and adopting innovative technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Specific duties include but are not limited to: Assist in the development and implementation of data ingestion, validation and transformation workflows that populate the AWS EMR and Redshift repositories. Assist in the development and implementationof usage and other data reports aggregating all available data sources through custom web applications or the Tableau business intelligence portal. Assist in the identification, development and implementation of statistical and analytical algorithms to provide enhanced reporting and monitoring capabilities to our stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree (junior or senior year) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar discipline. Certifications or training in relevant programming languages, Big Data and/or Search technologies preferred.
Skills & Other Requirements: Competent in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, Scala, R, etc. Basic to intermediate skills in working with the Linux operating system. Good understanding of database technologies, data modelling and proficiency in SQL. Good analytical skills with ability to model and visualize statistical patterns in data. Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and programming frameworks. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Familiarity with big data technologies and tools preferred.
