GREENFIELD Special Education Instructional Assistant - Preschool JobDescription DUTIES: - Assist teachers in teaching of students in allaspects of the student day - Work cooperatively in an interdisciplinarysetting with staff, students, parents - Assist teachers in all aspectsof student management - some restraint management is required at times -Assist with preparation of classroom environment and materials - Abilityto manage and work with small groups of students - Other duties asassigned SALARY: As per Unit C contract QUALIFICATIONS: - NCLB HighlyQualified - Associate Degree or equivalent coursework preferred -Experience working with elementary students - Positive interaction stylewith adults and students - Dependability, care with details, goodattendance, confidentiality - Such reasonable alternatives as deemedacceptable Our preschool classes are now housed in our newly createdEarly Childhood Center (which opened in September 2006). Our preschoolenvironment is designed to foster interaction among children and topromote \"learning through doing\" in an active, prepared and safesetting. Opportunities for learning occur in individual, small, andlarge groups. Often, activities are arranged around themes such ascolors, seasons, animals, etc. The schedule balances active play,exploration, and guided discovery with rest periods to: * Supportchildren in developing self-confidence, social competence and theenjoyment of learning * Highlight the essential skills for earlyreading, writing, and mathematical thinking * Recognize language isembedded in all developmental areas * Provide hands-on active learningbased on the child\'s interest and sense of emerging skills, integratedwith the Massachusetts CurriculumStandards(http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/current.html) * Usecritical thinking and problem-solving abilities to discover new ideasand abilities We also offer a program that blends the services of publicschool and Head Start for 3, 4, and 5 year olds for eligible families.We value parent involvement with the school program and comfortable,positive transitions into public school.
