Description
The Perimeter Protection, Anti-DDoS (Distributed Denial of Services), team is the front-line defense for all DDoS threats world-wide, against all Amazon & AWS customers and services. Our architecture must be highly scalable, performant, and continually evolve against threats as they emerge. We aim to be fast, precise and provide complete protection for all AWS services and customers.
The Anti-DDoS team is looking for a Software Development Manager to help us build new services and improve our existing services for internal and external customers. You will work closely with other teams: security, networking and systems to identify opportunities to launch new features and continually improve our defenses against the DDoS attacks.
In this role, you will lead part of the Blackwatch team which is responsible for development of the core DDoS mitigation engine. When an application running on AWS is targeted by a DDoS attack, the services that you and your team develop will work out how to distribute mitigations across our global control plane and generate reports for the customer. You will own the operation of these services and partner with stakeholders across the organization to set goals and deliver a long-term vision for protecting our customer’s critical applications.

The AWS Perimeter Protection,Anti-DDoS team, is looking for a software engineering manager to manage a team to solve challenging distributed systems problems on a global scale and continually deliver new capabilities to meet the needs of our customers world-wide. The ideal candidate has strong technical background in distributed systems and a knowledge of computer networking is a plus!
Candidates who enjoy the challenges of scaling a global architecture, have deep analytical skills and excellent communication skills will find the Anti-DDoS team to be inline with their interests and desire for a challenge. You must be able to highly collaborative, be creative, analytical and thrive in fast-paced environments, all while interacting with highly technical software and networking development teams.

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
