About Software Development Engineer, Dependency Assurance

  Description

Amazon Web Services provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. To meet the growing demand for AWS Services around the globe, we need exceptionally talented, bright, and driven people to enable our Region expansion. The Dependency Assurance team is looking for an experienced engineer to build solutions and tooling to help AWS Builders expand their services to Regions throughout the world. Our team’s technical scope includes the full software stack from graph databases to message brokers to APIs to user frontends.

Your work will have a direct impact on how tens of thousands of AWS Builders develop and deploy their services for Region expansion. Your work will have visibility to leadership across the AWS organization and provide huge opportunity to learn new things while solving complex engineering problems, delivering results that make impact on revenue and resources, and growing professionally and personally.

Developers at AWS work on real world problems on a global scale, own their systems end-to-end, and influence the direction of our technology that impacts hundreds of millions customers around the world. Join a team of super smart, customer obsessed engineers that think big and have fun.

Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and we host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.

Our team also puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here, which is why we aren’t focused on how many hours you spend at work or online. Instead, we’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work.

This role will sit in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full-time jobs. Our employees and the neighboring community will also benefit from the associated investments from the Commonwealth including infrastructure updates, public transportation improvements, and new access to Reagan National Airport.

  Key job responsibilities

You solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.

You work with your team to invent, design and build software that is stable and performant.

You are proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when it is appropriate to use them (and when it is not). Your solutions are pragmatic.

You consider the legacy of the code you produce and write code that an SDE unfamiliar with the system can understand.

You limit the use of short-term workarounds. You do things with the proper level of complexity the first time (or at least minimize incidental complexity).

You create flexible software without over-engineering. You make appropriate trade-offs, re-use where possible, and are judicious about introducing dependencies.

You are efficient with resource usage (e.g., system hardware, database, memory/CPU, etc.)

You work on project ideas with customers, stakeholders, and peers

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Arlington, VA, USA | Herndon, VA, USA

  Basic Qualifications

3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
