The Opportunity:

WSP is seeking a junior to intermediate Social Scientist to join our BC Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team on a full-time basis in our Vancouver office. Our team of social scientists and engagement specialists work throughout BC and elsewhere in Canada and internationally on environmental and socio-economic impact assessments, environmental permitting, policy and program development, social management planning, sustainability initiatives, community engagement, social due diligence, and third-party monitoring. The successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to work on interesting and diverse projects across sectors, with a wide range of complexity.

What you can expect to do here:

Support socio-economic and land and marine use assessments, as part of environmental impact assessment for a wide variety of sectors including infrastructure, power and renewable energy, mining, and oil gas

Support secondary research, primary data collection, and field work, including qualitative and quantitative data collection with Indigenous Nations, user groups, communities, and the public

Conduct analysis and reporting of socio-economic research

Support Indigenous and public engagement activities for projects

Assist with development of socio-economic and land and marine use management plans for projects, to meet regulatory and corporate requirements and best practice

Support other WSP services as may be required, such as socio-economic monitoring, health impact assessments, permit applications, and social compliance and due diligence reviews

Assist senior staff with Project coordination and management, proposal development, and technical presentations

What you’ll bring to WSP:

A university degree (graduate degree preferred) in a social science or natural resource management, or other relevant program

Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant professional experience

Demonstrated social science research skills and experience (e.g., use of government statistics, surveys, interviews, focus groups), including design and implementation of research programs and logistics

Strong team player with experience working on multi-disciplinary projects and teams

Experience working with Indigenous nations, communities and the public

Available for business travel and extended working hours as may be required from time to time

Excellent work ethic with strong organization and time management skills

Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
