  The Hoover Institution is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Social Media Strategist position.

  About Stanford University’s Hoover Institution: The Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace is a public policy research center devoted to the advanced study of economics, politics, history, and political economy—both domestic and foreign—as well as international affairs.

  Founded in 1919 by Herbert Hoover before he became the thirty-first president of the United States, the Institution began as a repository of historical material gathered at the end of World War I. The library and archives have grown to be among the largest private repositories of documents on twentieth-century political and economic history. Over time the Institution expanded its mission from collecting archival material to conducting advanced research on contemporary history and economics and applying this scholarship to current public policy challenges.

  With its eminent scholars and world-renowned library and archives, the Hoover Institution seeks to improve the human condition by advancing ideas that promote economic opportunity and prosperity, while securing and safeguarding peace for America and all humanity.

  JOB PURPOSE:

  The Social Media Strategist reports to the Associate Director of Marketing & Policy Education of the Hoover Institution and is accountable for managing the social media accounts for the Institution by promoting its mission, brand, fellows, and public policy research priorities through various social media platforms. Building off their experience in communicating the social media strategy for organizations, the strategist will develop and implement an initiative-level digital community communications plan for the Hoover Institution through key partnerships and innovative distribution methods. The ideal candidate will be able to capture the essence of the research and priorities of the Institution and translate it for specific social media audiences across various platforms by optimizing the available tools.

  CORE DUTIES:

  • Manage the development and implementation of a comprehensive digital community strategy for the Hoover Institution, focusing on user engagement and fostering a transformative connection between users and the Institution.

  • Lead the establishment of a robust digital community across various platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, as well as emerging channels like bloggers and aggregators. Utilize innovative and strategic thinking to drive growth and enhance the Institution's reach.

  • Stay current with emerging social media platforms.

  • Provide recommendations for areas where the Hoover Institution can strategically expand and maximize its influence.

  • Responsible for management of Hoover digital channels. Oversee editorial strategy and voice (of the content through the channels).

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including product and program managers, as well as campus partners, to align efforts and achieve the overarching goals of the Hoover Institution.

  • Effectively handle constituent complaints, reputational issues, and other high-priority matters on digital channels, demonstrating adept crisis management skills.

  ADDITIONAL CORE DUTIES*:

  • Promote the Hoover Institution through social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and others using innovative and strategic thinking.

  • Produce, curate, and develop well-written and visually appealing content to drive engagement.

  • Strong focus on the analysis of compiled data across institutional accounts to analyze and report on and refine social media use. Analyze how content is performing and create reports with recommendations to management. Be able to track the Institution’s effectiveness in distributing information.   • Leverage partnerships for fellows across social media platforms and partner with members of the Hoover fellowship to promote their research, analysis and commentary by setting them up with a successful social media presence.

  • Work with partner agencies to use the various modes of communication and marketing tools of all social media platforms.

  • Leverage advertisements and partner distribution on social media platforms.

  • Stay abreast of emerging social media platforms and recommend areas in which the Hoover Institution could effectively grow and leverage its reach.

  • Responsible for additional digital media outreach including bloggers, aggregators, etc.

  Education & Experience:

  Bachelor's degree and three to five years of relevant experience in the workforce, or combination of education and relevant experience required. Five years of relevant experience strongly preferred including knowledge of and experience in the field of public policy.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current and future trends.

  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.

  • Interest in Public Policy, Political Science, History strongly recommended.

  • Demonstrated problem solver.

  • Ability to leverage current and future trends to help an organization succeed at the initiative level, for a specific group, team or unit.

  • Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules.

  • Experience leading highly-functioning teams.

  Desired/Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience and understanding of effective ways for a public policy research center/think tank to use social media to reach target audiences.

  • Excellent research skills with an ability to distill complicated policy issues in a way that appeals to social media audiences, as well as pulling from the library of Institutional research in relation to current policy debates/news issues.

  • Ability to illustrate proven success with growing various social media audiences and increasing engagement.

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.

  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.

  WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional work on evenings and weekends.

  The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 - $108,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
