GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
An employee in this classification performs entry level stage work involving the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers carrying all associated stage equipment. This level also includes stagehands and involves the setting up, tearing down and resetting of equipment used in productions. Additionally, this position involves the operation maintenance and repair of the RP Funding Center A/V, followspot, stage lights, video fly systems, telephone equipment, and stage electrics. This position reports to the Electrical Systems Maintenance Specialist/Technical Supervisor.
This is a part time temporary position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Safely loading/unloading trucks and trailers.
Assembling and carrying stage pieces and associated hardware about the stage or performance area.
Installing and patching phone lines.
Operation/maintenance of fly system.
Assisting electrician in stage lighting set-ups.
Assists in stage set-ups as necessary.
Must be able to confirm classes of service and verify telephone extensions through the complex.
Basic electrical trouble shooting on stage instruments.
Assists wardrobe and property personnel.
Assembles props.
Irons and steams wardrobe clothing.
Sets up audio systems as necessary, as well as stage lighting.
Sews and repairs stage curtains.
Operates and assists in video production equipment maintenance.
Operates video equipment such as cameras, VCR's, projectors and mixers on performances.
Working knowledge of 2-way radio operations.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE) AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma from an accredited school or its equivalent.
Must have at least one (1) year experience OJT or school training in three of the following categories: video, audio, lighting (stage), telephone systems, or A/V equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of theatre layouts.
Knowledge of general safety procedures relative to working in loading/unloading environments.
Knowledge of basic carpentry.
Working knowledge and ability to operate fly systems.
Knowledge of all types of stage lighting instruments used in the complex.
Knowledge of electrical formulas pertinent to facility stage electronics; i.e. Ohms Law.
Knowledge of all types of stage lighting instruments used by facility as well as their maintenance and uses.
Knowledge of theatrical stage practices.
Knowledge of standard videography procedures including audio and lighting for video.
Ability to make minor sewing repairs.
Basic knowledge of stage carpentry.
Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain followspots.
Knowledge of A/V equipment such as slide projectors, overhead projectors, video projectors and film projectors.
Knowledge and ability to do maintenance on facility audio systems.
Knowledge of facility lighting systems and their set-up.
Working knowledge of audio mixers, amplifiers, equalizers, compressor limiters and speakers.
Knowledge of fly systems and their associated hardware, as well as safety procedures.
Knowledge of rigging hardware.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
Medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, reaching, stretching, pushing, exerting up to 100 pounds of force on a regular basis and lifting 50 pounds occasionally
May be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, fumes, extreme noise levels, heights, electrical shock, moving machinery, traffic, adverse weather conditions, noxious odors, wet, humid conditions.
The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception and texture perception.
