LINE WORKERDISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves supervising and participating in the continuing maintenance of a municipal electric power system. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Electric Department Supervisor with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgement as to the order of tasks and methods used to complete assignments. Direct supervision is exercised over subordinate Line Workers and Helpers when the Senior Line Worker acts as a crew leader. A Senior Line Worker does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK A TIVITIES :Installs and repairs service drops, transformers, crossarms;Leads a small group of subordinate workers;Pulls materials needed for work assignments;Supervises and participates in the placement of poles and stringing of electric lines;Operates aerial bucket;Installs and maintains street lights;Drives electric department motor vehicles;Instructs personnel in electrical maintenance techniques;Reads and may repair electric meters;Maintains time records and supervises department in the absence of the Electric Supervisor;Must carry a village phone;May assist other village departments.

　　FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : Good knowledge of the principles and practices of electric power system installation and maintenance; good knowledge of electrical circuit maintenance safety precautions; ability to layout and supervise the work of others; ability to climb poles and work in high places; ability to work from plans and specifications; ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner; ability to follow oral and written instructions; manual dexterity; mechanical aptitude; physical condition equal to the demands of the position.

　　MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of electrical construction or maintenance experience.

　　NOTE: Experience must have included working with primary electrical circuits having voltages greater than 480 volts.

　　SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of an appropriate class New York State driver's license at time of appointment.
