About Senior Video Journalist

  Job Description:

Do you want to make creative, informative and deeply-reported technology videos? Do you want to be part of a team that interviews the top technology leaders and helps people better understand our complicated connected world?

The Wall Street Journal video department is seeking a highly creative and technically savvy senior video journalist to join our team in New York and work with Joanna Stern, the Journal's Emmy-award-winning senior personal technology columnist.

Top candidates for this position will be first-rate producers with a track record of shooting and creating highly-visual, in-depth videos that make sense of complicated topics and trends. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate exceptional shooting, producing and editing, strong multitasking and organizational skills, a deep interest in technology and a dogged devotion to getting the job done under tight deadline constraints.

  Requirements:

A versatile and skilled videographer who is confident shooting and field producing in a variety of environments under tight deadlines. Think everything from the studio to a car junkyard (really!) to an interview at a big technology company. Preference given to those proficient with Sony FS7, FX9 and A7S cameras. Adept with studio lighting setups and audio. Must be able to show clips where you were the primary camera on a project. An understanding and interest in technology journalism and explaining complicated technologies in fresh and fun ways. A passion for rolling up your sleeves and reporting and pitching stories that haven't been told before. Experience producing pieces from pitch to publish, translating scripts in creative ways, using high-quality video, motion graphics and a wide range of editing techniques. At least five years of experience producing, shooting and editing videos, preferably in a daily news environment at a top-tier news organization. You must be organized and know how to manage your time to meet deadlines and keep to the production plan. Must have strong editing skills and mastery of the Adobe suite, with a high level of expertise in Premiere. Basic graphics experience using After Effects and Photoshop. A self-starting idea generator and your clips should demonstrate vision and versatility. Should have flexible working hours and proven experience meeting tight deadlines in high-pressure situations.

Applications should include a resume, a cover letter explaining your interest in the job and technology journalism and links to at least three pieces you have shot and edited yourself. Please include a description of the role you played in each production. No reels, please.
