Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager | New York, NY | Newark, NJ | Hybrid
VHB is seeking a Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager to work in our growing Northeast market. This role will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and designers in the development of studies, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of rail and transit infrastructure projects, including conceptual, preliminary, and final design involving light rail transit, bus rapid transit, commuter rail, intercity passenger rail, and freight rail improvements.
Responsibilities
Manage multiple, simultaneous efforts including projects of various topics and complexity
Develop, manage, and maintain project schedules and budgetsLead development of project deliverables and provide quality controlWork directly with client project manager and maintain a good relationshipManage financial progress through timely submittal of invoices and progress reports and initiation of change orders for out-of-scope servicesPrepare technical reports and analysesManage multidisciplinary teams Take an active role in business development and identify new project opportunitiesRepresent VHB at regional conferences, seminars, and industry eventsManage and prepare technical and cost proposalsPrepare and deliver technical presentationsAssist in the development of business and marketing plansTake an active role in the development and mentoring of the Transit & Rail group staffWork to improve the VHB Transit & Rail 'brand' and to achieve industry excellence and consistencySkills & Abilities
Proven ability to coordinate with interdisciplinary teams such as Planning, Architecture, Environmental, Structural, Civil, Rail, and Traffic EngineeringStrong understanding of transit and rail infrastructure and multi-discipline system integrationTechnical experience in multiple transit and rail design disciplines (track, rail systems, grade crossings, stations structures, transit facilities, route design, right-of-way, clearances)Experience in understanding NEPA and public perception of transit and rail project impacts to service availability and qualityThe candidate must possess a focus and understanding on transit and rail operations and working / technical knowledge of rail systems (track, signal, power, OCS, communications, right-of-way, structures, clearances), including phasing/staging of designs for construction while maintaining transit and rail operations for the clientExperience with MTA New York City Transit, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Railroad, New Jersey Transit, PANY&NJ PATH, and Amtrak strongly preferredExperience with bus operations and bus rapid transit preferred, including bus maintenance facilitiesExcellent technical written and verbal communication skills and analytical skillsStrong public speaking and business development skills, market connected in the NYC metropolitan area preferredExcellent project management skillsStrong capability in use of computer applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPointCapability in the use of project management applications such as MS Project or PrimaveraMinimum Requirements
BS in Civil Engineering or related field8-11 years of progressive technical experience in transit and rail planning/engineering/program management and implementation of transit and rail projects required11-15 years' experience preferredNY PE license required and NJ PE license preferred and/or ability to obtain within 6 monthsMinimum of 3 years as a Project ManagerProven ability to manage a multidisciplinary team Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $130,000-195,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
