What is the opportunity?
The Senior Trade Operations Associate provides trade support coverage for RBC Global Asset Management Fixed Income and Equity portfolio management teams while ensuring operational effectiveness in the trade settlement process.
What will you do?Responsible for timely and accurate affirmation and settlement of Fixed Income, Equity, and Derivative products and all associated reconciliationsBuild and maintain excellent relationships primarily within the Operations team in Minneapolis and Stamford but also with the wider GAM team in Canada and the UK.Primarily support trading activity originating in Minneapolis but also perform handovers from and to London colleagues for tasks that persist between time zones.Identifying new control points and demonstrating awareness of potential operational riskMonitoring and reviewing controls and procedures on a regular basis to ensure they are representative of current operational work practices currently performed.Engaging internal teams to ensure new initiatives are implemented and that trade flow connectivity is maintained for STP.Working closely with custodians and brokers to ensure all trade capture and reporting requirements are adhered to.Working closely with external vendors to understand key trade flow requirements.Helping to maintain the relationships between Operations and external middle/back-office providers.Build and maintain strong relationships with Front Office to ensure timely and accurate booking of transactions.Demonstrating an understanding and awareness of any systems, upgrades and enhancements, and any potential regulatory breaches.Actively resolving any position issues raised by the desk or other operational departments, investigating, and escalating as necessary to identify the root cause.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-haveBachelor's Degree (minimum), in Finance, Economics or Business Administration.5+ years of Operational experience ideally gained in a similar Asset Management environment, but other backgrounds could be suitable.Working knowledge of a variety of investment types including fixed income, equity, derivatives, and global fixed income.Excellent written and oral presentation skills; comfortable interfacing and supporting traders and portfolio managers in multiple office locations.Must be organized, critical thinking, self-motivated and deadline oriented.Must be able to prioritize multiple daily, monthly, and quarterly tasks - in addition to ongoing ad hoc projects as assigned.
Nice-to-haveKnowledge of the affirmation and settlement process for Fixed Income and/or OTC Derivatives is an advantage.Experience with trade settlement systems: Central Trade Manager (CTM), Swift, ALERT.Ability to prioritize work depending on urgency, calculating risk impacts and knock-on effects.Displays a positive and energetic attitude, gets involved and proactively seeks out opportunities to advance the business.Consistently displays a ‘can-do' attitude, perseveres in the face of setbacks, and remains calm and professional under pressure.
