  Hurricane Mesa Test Facility (HMTF) is a unique test site tasked with validating ejection seat systems and subsystems. Tests vary from sled track tests to seat-aircrew separation, braking system acceptance testing, and other energetic and subsystem performance tests. Sled tests involve state-of-the-art anthropometric manikins (akin to automotive industry manikins) at ejection velocities from zero airspeed/zero altitude to beyond the speed of sound (760+ mph ground speed).

  This position is for a Senior Test Engineer . This person will be responsible for overseeing test setup and providing general technical support for all onsite test programs . The role will work with customers, both internal and external, on developing and supporting tests and other activities at HMTF . Must possess ability to coordinate and lead activities as well as strong organization and analytical skills.

  Primary Responsibilities:

  Work as part of an engineering team in developing, testing, and qualifying of various aircraft escape system products and components

  Provide support for video capture of test events including standard and hi-speed video

  Assure tests are conducted in accordance with approved test plans and established safety procedures

  Handle energetic propulsive devices, such as high velocity aerial rocket motors (HVARS) used for sled propulsion and smaller explosive initiator devices used in system subcomponents

  Collaborate with other engineers on design, fabrication, and modification of test fixtures and test articles, in support of test programs and customer requirements

  Perform post-test data and trajectory analysis, video collection, and storage operations

  Research and evaluate facility processes to reduce operating costs and improve data collection

  Support facility maintenance, repairs, and test capability expansions throughout the 6,500-acre Hurricane Mesa Test Facility (HMTF)

  Assist with test facility operational oversi ght , safety compliance, and visitor access control

  Support engineering management and business development with creation of proposals for new business opportunities by identifying and estimating testing related to tasks

  Act as primary technical authority for site operating procedures

  Adhere to all Collins Aerospace safety rules and codes of conduct

  Perform other duties as required

  Basic Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR

  Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR

  In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  Previous experience working in a test environment, in combination with related education and training

  Strong analytical skills including knowledge of physics and dynamics

  Coordinating technical projects and work teams

  Presenting technical subject matter to internal and external customers

  Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Familiarity with aircraft cockpit, crew station, escape system, ejection seat, and crew systems

  Work with aerospace/defense related programs

  Handling propulsive and energetic devices

  Familiarity with high-speed camera systems and video capture

  F amiliarity with machining, welding, and fabricating

  The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
