JOB SUMMARY: As a Senior Systems Engineer on the Disney Cruise Line Server Team you will install, configure, implement, and support all aspects of the on-prem server environment onboard DCL ships, private islands, and labs/lower environments.
Additionally, you will provide technical expertise in resolving operational issues and take point in troubleshooting outages and own the service vendor relationship for day-to-day operations. This role oversees project implementation for the on-premises storage and compute platforms for Disney Cruise Line, Disney’s Castaway Cay, Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Newbuild staging facilities, lower environment platforms, and testing labs.
The Senior Systems Engineer on the DCL Server Team conducts their project and operational work in a manner that will ensure maximum availability of storage and compute systems in all DCL locations, working in collaboration with partners in Infrastructure Operations, shipside IT operations, and support groups within the Disney Cruise Line IT organization.
Primary Responsibilities
Provides technical expertise and assistance to entry and mid-level systems engineers.
Assists in problem analysis and issue resolution, serving as an escalation point for complex problems, leads issue escalation and resolution as point of presence for vendors.
Sets and maintains technical standards for best practices.
Implements improvements to processes and technology that enhance the effectiveness of the team in support of the storage and compute infrastructure across the environment.
Maintains and deploys comprehensive monitoring strategies across hardware platforms to ensure issues are proactively reacted to and resolved before affecting operations.
Coordinates and performs preventative storage and compute firmware and hardware upgrades/maintenance while providing maximum availability.
Provides day-to-day support for standard operations of the storage and compute infrastructure including but not limited to patching, handling issue tickets, assisting in requests for changes or additions to the server platform in support of application operations.
Reviews storage and compute platforms for adherence to lifecycle management and participates in evaluation of ongoing technical advances to propose next generation systems.
Deploys server platforms adhering to Disney GIS security standards and practices, ensuring production systems are secure and all configurations conform to best practice security guidelines.
Performs advanced troubleshooting and issue resolution (on-call support required)
Ensures 24x7 operational support and maintenance onboard.
Works to develop repeatable, reliable deployments with the inclusion of automation strategies.
Provides technical guidance and project subject matter expertise to colleagues and customers as needed.
Required Skills, Knowledge, Experience, Education, Licensure and Certifications
Minimum of 5 years of related work experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
Experience with enterprise virtualization, compute and storage infrastructures – VMware, HCI, vSAN clusters, iSCSI and Fibre channel SAN fabric.
Experience with enterprise level datacenter implementations with high availability.
Experience with datacenter and enterprise troubleshooting tools and methodologies.
Advanced level, relevant technical certification or related work experience with enterprise level storage and computer hardware and systems.
Orlando, FL based position with limited travel as needed.
Preferred qualifications:
Certification and/or extensive experience with Dell Systems VXRail platform, Cisco UCS compute, Pure Storage, HPE 3Par Storage, Rubrik Backup Platform, VMWare Product Suite (Foundation)
Deployment and support experience of diverse highly available platform infrastructure.
