About Senior Staff Associate III

  The Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs seeks a Senior Staff Associate III (Officer of Research) to support original research on domestic and/or international energy policy, geopolitics, technology, equality and justice, markets, development, oil and gas, natural gas, hydrogen, electricity, carbontech, or other relevant areas (e.g., the energy transition to zero-carbon fuels, energy and public health).

  The incumbent will use expertise about the research subject and lead significant portion of research project by independently designing, executing and interpreting research, conducting literature reviews; generating, analyzing and visualizing data. The incumbent will produce outputs including peer-reviewed journal articles, research reports, issue briefs, op-eds, present at conferences, seminars and/or events. Initiate new research proposals; prepare funding and grant submissions. Design research approaches for entire projects to improve impact on implementation and/or outcomes of research project. Under the direction of a PI, assist with grant applications, manage junior staff members, and manage project resources.

  The position will leverage linkages between other areas of ongoing work across the Earth Institute, Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Sabin Center for Climate Change Law, Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy, and Columbia University more broadly, including its Climate School. The position will engage at a high level with key stakeholders.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (science, engineering, public policy, economics, international affairs, political science, etc.)At least 15 years of professional experience across some combination of the following topics: the power sector, electricity markets, renewable energy, natural gas, energy infrastructure development, energy investment, energy markets, energy policy, energy justice, the energy sector, and/or climate policy. Time spent pursuing graduate education may substitute for professional experience requirements.Verbal communication skills as well as excellent writing and copy-editing skills.Project management skills, excellent management of internal and external communications, and extraordinary attention to detail.Preferred Qualifications:

  Master's Degree or Ph.D. in relevant field (science, engineering, public policy, economics, international affairs, political science, etc.).Experience in developing and utilizing quantitative tools and qualitative methods for policy and/or technical analysis of energy systems and/or climate impacts of changes in the energy systems.Experience with initiating new research proposals, designing research approaches for entire projects.Experience leading and managing research projects.Experience with grant applications and management.Strong language skills, including proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English.Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran

  The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
