Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and open source software (OSS) offerings.
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Azure SQL Database Connectivity team. Your contributions will ensure millions of users can access Azure SQL Databases with unparalleled security, reliability, and performance. The work we do is crucial to ensure our customers are able to access their data with high availability. You will be working on a distributed system architecture supporting connectivity at true cloud-scale across geographically distributed data centers. You will be working with technologies like Network Protocols, SDN, Gateways and supporting newer Azure hardware generations. Working with a team of experts in a distributed system, your work will influence the technical direction of the Azure SQL Database service and shape the networking technologies across the entire Azure Cloud ecosystem.

Responsibilities
Design and implement capabilities that will ensure SQL Database microservices will perform in the Azure newest hardware generations, including Cobalt.
Design and implement the next phase of connectivity, scalability, and reliability features of SQL Database to help propel the next wave of fundamental capabilities for our cloud databases offerings.
Stay updated on recent trends in the database world with a focus on networking, reliability, scalability, and security, and be open to experimenting with promising trends on these focus areas that might open up new avenues of growth for SQL database.
Provide guidance and mentor engineers, enabling them to succeed in the team and the space.
Conduct code reviews and help shape and steer the team coding guidelines.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience in distributed systems and/or operating system development with databases.
1+ years of experience in software-defined networking and storage systems or ARM development.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Additional or Preferred Qualifications

Expereince in Azure SQL Databases with unparalleled security, reliability, and performance is desired.
Demonstrated experience leading high-performing engineering teams that work on system software is preferred.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
